The road to Veroignr
Balir doesn't exactly understand what is going on around him, but he can tell things are getting more hostile.  As before, he stands between the inhabitants of the keep and the rest of the group, and keeps his hand close to the handle of his axe.

Given the tense nature of the exchange, Balir almost can't help himself, and finds himself asking a question.  "So tell me, what were the symptoms of this fever you described?  None of us has any illness that I am aware of."

Balir holds his ground.  He can hear the gold in the tower calling him, but this wasn't his call.  The rest of the group was far more educated on what was going on than he was.  So, as a diversion, he continues conversation.  "I don't see anything like zis on any ov you.  In fact zou aren't even breathing. How did zou come to be in zis condition?  It vasn't ze fever."

OOC Have forgotten his accent a bit.  Demerits!

With the blast of light from Aethul's spell, the inhabitants of the tower shrink back, and cover their eyes, their flesh starting to smolder.
while the others retreat, two draw their swords and charge toward Aethul.

One, misses terribly due to his squint, the other may have hit, doing two points impaling to the torso before DR.

Balir was ready for this.  As soon as the first one of the tower inhabitants makes their move, he draws his axe, and begins shielding the group from them.

OOC Draw axe, using the step maneuver to put himself between the creatures and the squishier members of the group (if possible).  Don't have an exact placement, but the following round he will attack the closest baddie with his axe.

Don't wreck the place, we'll just use the light I made ... Chunky can open the windows though, some fresh air would probably be welcome.

Balir is surprised to see that the creature is not felled by his axe, but then again he knew these weren't regular humanoids too.  Drawing back for a mighty blow, he attacks the thing again, determined to fell it.

Kirpich's boulder strikes the one the faun stabbed, and knocked it back.
As it pulls itself up, it glares at Kirpich.

Balir cleaves into the other. Despite the tremendous force of the blow, it seems to be only slightly annoyed!

Marlena casts a spell.

Snorri steps around Kirpich to protect him, and aporoaches the one struck in the head, readying his axe.

Dionysus stabs the one struck by Balir, but it has little effect.

Lot of math in the background...

The one before Snorri swings its narrow blade, catching the faun in one of his haunches, before being struck down by Snorri's axe, which leaves a deep smoking wound.
The other clatters its blade against Balir's shield, letting the dwarven knight know that it is slightly stronger than he, band it takes his axe to the chest, but does not fall

The others have retreated from view.

Despite crackles of green sparks, Marlena
Has no visible success with her spell.

The roof is timber with slate tiles on the outside, and thus not really affected by earth spells from the interior.
The flooring here is polished porcelain tile.

Balir is visibly annoyed by this point.  Any normal person would have been cut in half by his axe already.  Obviously these were magical creatures of some sort, so they weren't playing fair.  Through the scowl on his face, and his visibly gritted teeth, Balir growls... "By Federjung, you will die!"

Still holding his shield, he moves his sword to his shield hand, fast draws a broad head arrow and launches the same from his hand at the chest of the Tower courtier.

The axe cleaves into the undead creature's leg, which does not bleed.

Aethus'arrow flies into its side. Its dark eyes widen, and it collapses, the wooden haft protruding from it.

Snorri looks down at the one fallen by his feet and scratches his chin.

"I don't think they are dead yet"

The bodies continue to smoulder in the sun-bright light of Aethul's amulet.

Balir places himself squarely between the rest of the group and the exit where the other tower courtiers left.  Then, he asks "What the hell was that??  What are these things, and how do we kill them?"  Then, after a second, he adds "And check them for valuables."  It was very possible they had coin on their persons.
