Balir will assist and then move to the front so whoever does the tracking has his protection.

He will continue to ask questions about how they were tracking, what they keyed off of when doing it, and that sort of thing.

I expect that they go back to that fortification we just left ... but let us be certain.

Balir listens to Kirpich.  He agrees with his opinion, since that is where all the gold would be.  "Ve could vait out here and kill zem as they come out for food.  A seige might make it easier.  But, I prefer to go in and kill zem directly.  Should not be too hard."

Balir pivots on his heel, and marches back to put himself between the roaring and the rest of the party.  His axe is in hand, and ready, as he waits to see what might appear.  He chats a bit as he takes position.
"What do you think it is?"
"I have not heard quite that roar before."
"It came from over there."

There is something on the near horizon (about a half a mile or so out) that looks kind of reddish. If it is that far, it is probably something around six or seven yards long, and probably taller than a man.

"If zat is as big as it seems, ve should get ready."

Balir takes a few more steps out in front of the group, and looks for a good defensible area where he might bottleneck the creature, or have protection on a flank.

The distant thing turns, either toward or away from you (it is about as wide as it is tall) and then it seems to get low to the ground... until you can't see it any more.

Interesting but likely more than we wish to see, my guess is a Salamander ... a right damn big one too.

At this distance it is hard to see, but it had more legs than most creatures.

This corresponds to the oversize burnt footprints you had seen when you first arrived.

Not sure exactly what it eats, but the farm it ravished is a hint ... We may well be on it's tasty bits list. How fast can you move?

There is a slight chance I could soothe it and keep it from just tearing into us. Balir, my Friend, I respect your courage and ability, but if that is indeed a salamander, you and six men like you are not its match here in the open. It is a truly fearsome beast. Think a  large slorn that breathes fire.

I may be able to calm it so it doesn't attack us ... maybe. I cannot direct it to do anything, but a source of food would be a draw, as most such animals think with their belly.

There is a slight chance, if I can find a deer or other animal it might see as food... but I will not see that animal killed.
