Balir will declare "I will sleep with the animals if we are concerned.  I don't expect anyone would bother them with someone as formidable as me there."

Just before the light went out, you could see a humanoid figure approach the lantern, and then their neck stretched about two yards toward the lantern, tipping it to the side and then the light went out, the neck retracted and they walked away.

OOC If Kirpich comes over to the tent with the animals I will assume Balir is awake.  Otherwise, I will assume he's sleeping (unless he hears something, etc).

It is still raining lightly, and the ground is very muddy.

Balir has a lantern with the oil already in it, but no additional oil to keep it lit.  He'll offer that if no one else steps forth with a better option.

OOC I assumed Kirpich was a human.  Is he a Dwarf then, or just has some priestly stuff?  Balir would know more from their talking, but the driver doesn't.

Along those same lines, Balir has night vision, so he wouldn't need much light to see either.

Kirpich is human, but Groms domain is underground, so Grom grants night vision.

ethul takes the lantern from Balir, opens the door and reaches in, he says something and moves a bit peculiarly ... there are some sparks of yellow and green and then a bright light issues from the lantern. He closes the door and hands it back to Balir.

There are a number of footprints in the mud. The hanging lantern's door is open, and there is no oil in it.

Balir is no tracker, so he stays clear of the footprints.  His main focus is maintaining a perimeter so the others can view the evidence.
