He seems confounded, but after a halting translation, three things become clear: he was hungry before he slept, he did not sleep well, but is also no longer hungry.

The translator asks why so many questions.

After some assistance from a translator, the rather confused laborer admits that he went to sleep hungry, and slept heavily, and woke without feeling hungry.

The translator is not quite sure what you are getting at, and says also that the lamps use Nataneabura, which comes from seeds.

Balir stands there quietly, listening to the conversation and occasionally looking over, from the place where he is playing sentry.

"Indeed. We should check nothing is missing, and leave this for the village elders to resolve. It is od, but does not seem criminal. Thank you, sir for your hospitality. Let us be on our way then."

He will check his items, and if nothing is missing, he will depart.

Balir nods in assent, although he doesn't say anything.  He's normally quite talkative, but in this case he didn't have much to say.  It seemed the matter was mostly on the level of religion and magic, nothing he had any firsthand experience with.

Balir will check over his inventory against his mental checklist, and then proceed to depart along with his fellow travelers.

The interaction should provide him ample opportunity to ask Kirpich about his pantheon, the difference he saw with the town, and how he views religion in general...

Balir will listen to see what's going on.  He hasn't probably heard anything like this, and so he'll assume it's some sort of bee swarm.  But, if it's loud enough to be heard, it could be dangerous...

Balir eyes the swarm nervously, stroking his beard absently with his right hand before resting it on the handle of his axe. His eyes will narrow for a moment as he looks ad the cloud in front of him. Finally he asks “What iz this?  Some sort ov a threat?  Is this dangerous?  What manner ov sorcery iz this?”

Couple of quick questions Kirpich could probably tell at a glance.

How many cubic yards of earth would need to be shaped to open the ground beneath us and create a shelter? How long do we have before these things are on us?

A rudimentary shelter would require a minimum of 27 yards, (two deep by 3x3 abd the rest to build a domed stable roof.

Balir slowly backs away from the flying blood suckers, while he takes a mental inventory of his stuff.  After a few seconds, he states in a bit of an annoyed tone  "I hav nothing to fight zem with.  Just my axe."
