Ashbury's Abattoir: a tavern near a slaughter house

On the eastern edge of Redlight, directly accross from a slaughterhouse in little Shevnia, is a run down tavern newly renamed The Abattoir. The upper floor almost never hs customers, but the basement is another story. There is a hoist made with sturdy beams that lowers a platform from a trap door dowm into a second tavern and Adventuring supply shop that has a gate to the undercity.
The street around the Tavern reeks of old blood, and the basement has a whiff of the sewers.

Grimaldi headed with Sederic, and Lourdaud to Ashbury's place.
Stepping inside, he addressed the barkeep.
"Greetings. Monsieur Benoit? We come from Master Ashbury with a note, and a new guildsman.
This is Lourdaud."
Grimaldi gestured to the ruffian, with them.

"Hah! So this is to be the new bouncer? Speak any Shevnian? These butchers have been looking to come to us for lunch. I don't think they are the customers Ashbury was planning on, but I suppose he can't complainif the seats are filled. Come in, buy a drink. Not you, Lourdad, there is no drinking on the job."

In reply to Benoit DuFresne (msg # 5):

While the sign is on the corner by the west door, yu enter thrugh this oe, and find yourself near the kitchen. The floirs are rouh, as are the walls, although they seem recently whitewashed. The furniture is worn and mismatched, and the chair legs
look gnawed on.
Half of the common area is occupied by a large wooden hoist, from which a rope disapears into a slot cut into a trap door with a deadbolt. The fireplace loks a bit rough.

Three menin stained leather aprons sit at a bench by one of the two large tables eating stew, bread, and cheese, and drinking dark ale.

The laborers raise the loading platform, and familiar with Benoit's reluctance to work the crank, lower it back downwith the store gnage, and climb down the adjacent ladder instead.

You are all now in a small whitewashed woom with signs of recent plastering and packed with kegs of ale and racks of wine bottles, illuminated by sconces holding glowing but unlit torches.
There is a door to one side, open to a similarly lit area, from whence you can hear several voices.

You step outside into the familiar damp of the outer under-corridor,
with its trace amount of decorative tiling.
Above the gate on the outside is a stone carved with a mix of elvish
and Roman runes, and above that is nailed a wooden plank painted with the word "Tavern". Two torch-bright nails are pounded into the sign.
By comparison, the nails in your sack are all candlebright.

The signs the laborers are carrying are a mix of the word tavern, arrows,
And a few with the same address-inscription as is found above the door.

To the right of the gate is a damp looking T intersection,  and there is another intersection some distance to the left.

In reply to Sederic (msg # 58):

The right hand passage leads to a T-intersection that is fairly narrow on it's crossbar; your passage is about four yards wide, this one is about two.  You can see that there are gates set into the wall across from the outer wall of the under-tavern (on the right hand of the T's crossbar),  and in some places, you can see that the Tavern's side masonry wall is sagging, and supported by large beams that abut the opposite wall on a diagonal; it would seem that the constant damp from the area beyond the gate, which you realize is spillage from the canal above.

The right hand of the T continues as far as your light permits, to the left, it is principally the same.  The best places to put signs here would be in sight of the gates into the wet tunnel. There does not seem to be much foot traffic here, but those are probably where maintenance workers would see them.

Ashbury's Abattoir: a tavern near a slaughter house

In reply to Sederic (msg # 61):

Evain sorts through the signs to get a tavern sign and an arrow, and holds up one end of the tavern sign. Frank reluctantly takes the other end, and Gaston, who is taller, starts pounding a spike through the sign on Frank's end.

The banging is quite loud, and bits of old mortar and crumbled brick fall from the wall.

He's probably roamed the undercity and sewers for decades, and now the remains should be given a decent burial, or burning on a pyre, with ceremony... Now, if we knew this were a miscreant, then we are not obliged to do anything for him, and may profit from his disposal, or as I do...collect the skulls of evil men, to put to "good" use... hmm hmm..."

The passage is awkward to move through, being barely wider than a yard, and  with occasional cross bracing that you have to crawl over. After a few hundered yards, there is a gate to the right hand side, and a wider corridor to the left<about three yards) and the narrow corridor continues ahead. The gate, like the last one leads into a tunnel filled to nearly floor level with foul slow moving water, spillover from the canal above.

"These people say they are in your employ, and were defacing public property with your advertising. Do you have permits for that, and for this business as well? I reall would rather not have the blue cloaks down this end of things `investigating', they are enough of a nuisance down at dockside near Vilgar's old place."

"I heard about that debacle. My uncle made sure we are permitted, although he went as far as to suggest we might try and get them as customers down here, along with members of your department. We sell supplies, ale, and hot and cold food. Think of us when you have your lunch break."
He passes a leather folio through the gate, and Karlow flips through some documents marked with the seals of the Hadereum, the Adventurer's  Guild, and the Guild of Brewers and Tavernkeepers.

The other side leads into a similar space, although it looks swept, and in its central sloped trench are a couple of barrels.

The passage west moves along a little unevenly as some of the flagstones are cracked, and a broad area appears to have been replaced with thick terra cotta tile.
There is a similar plugging of a smaller hole in the ceiling.
You pass one bricked over entrance, and there is another pair of opposed gates bear the repair, both full of rubble.
The next intersection is a little different, with most of the decorative tile along the shoulder of the wall missing, and an iron hook protruding from one corner. The ceiling above it has layers of old smoke smudges.

Most gobbos you have seen are greyish to yellowish  green to shades of greenish brown.
These two are orange, and dressed in tunics, sandals, reinforced leather torso armor and have sashes in a green and orange zigzag pattern.  One has what looks like a large dark bronze key handcuffed to his wrist, but they are otherwise unarmed.  Their heads are bare, and have odd scarring on the temples.
