Re: Rice Run

In reply to Iskander (msg # 729):

You are able to find only three of the dead;many were injured, but all fled

These men have reinforced leather torso armor and helms, gambesons, boots, cheap shortswords, surcoats with the baron's symbol. One has a bow with a burnt bowstring and charred arrows, two have muddied banners on spears. All have medium shields with the baron's arms.

Remembering Tanaka being struck by an arrow, during the battle, Iskander would seek him out, to make sure he was okay, and render aid, if necessary.

In reply to Ales Konstantin (msg # 737):

In the short term, adding further traps could be a help, in the long term, having no sign of /he troops would be really bad, as the village would be razed, but negotiating with thr leader and banners would certainly help.

Re: Rice Run

"The wall I raised need not be the only one.  I was able to do so without drawing on my power item, therefore I can repeat the process each hour and a half, perhaps more frequently if there is someone who can lend me energy, allowing two to recover what one expends.

"In a few days, I could raise such a wall all around the village, with but narrow openings where a walking person could pass easily, but a horse would be restricted, and where an attacking force would enter a killing ground.

"The wall is not so high that a horse could not jump it, but a horse doing so would land in a known area, where a trench or stakes would lame it."

Re: Rice Run

"Once more, Ming-Sa, you demonstrate your goodness and spirit.  With two of us, I can raise another section of wall like that one with just over a half hour of rest, and you can recover as I do.

"Are you fully rested now?  If so, i would ask that you lend me the equivalent of a half draught of paut now, to replace part of what I have spent in the battle, then in a sixth part of an hour we may begin raising wall segments.

"I will raise a wall such as this one, either joining the sections or leaving a small gap, and you will lend me half the energy I have spent -- a total of one and three-fourths draught of paut for each section -- and we will both recover in less than two thirds of an hour."

OOC: If Ming-Sa is unfamiliar with paut, Chou-Zhen will instead measure by the energy Ming-Sa has recently spent on each of her daylight-bright lights.  We will then begin by raising a wall to one side of the first, with a gap of less than a yard -- large enough for a man to pass, even when carrying a pole with loads on the ends or a heavy pack, but narrow enough to restrict a horse and rider.

For practical reasons, Chou-Zhen will instruct Ming-Sa to lend between the Shape Earth and Earth to Stone castings, to avoid the danger of falling unconscious from exhaustion.  Together, we can raise a section of wall every thirty-five minutes.  Even with extra casting time (to increase effective skill) we can do three sections in two hours, and with the extra time (effective skill 16) and Akitsu-san's blessing (which adjusts the roll, not the skill), only a roll of 18 will fail.

See message 644 for the dimensions and casting cost.

OOC: Ales, you don't roll to Recover Energy, you just "rest faster".  Instead of 10 minutes to recover one point, you take 5 minutes at skill 15, or 2 minutes at skill 20.

Iskander had gone with Chye, about the dogs.
He stands a distance off, arms folded, with his back to the Sahudese.
In earshot, he turns his head to look at the men, when things seem to be going south...
"I suggest you take it. Besides, you'll end up with more than $40, each. We already have the gear we captured from several men we already killed."
