Haveron looks over at the new arrival, and watches the scene develop for a moment.  Then, in a measured tone, he asks "Gareth, what is this and what is going on?  I require an explanation."

"I think Gareth is just defaulting to a cautious response when faced with something sudden. Var, if you carry one of these weird stones back to sell you can probably make some cash. Also we are engaging in technically not grave robbing now. I assume you approve." Berry tries to diffuse conflict and updates Var on the situation.

He responds in an irritated manner to Haveron, who seemingly ignored his own request for the very same thing.

Haveron frowns back at Gareth and speaks more sternly.  "Gareth, who is this, and how does he appear out of no where, knowing who you are, in the middle of our journey?  I fear whatever magic is at play could attract the attention of our target.  Like I said, I would like an explanation of whatever just happened here."

Haveron is obviously taken aback by Gareth's response, but does not react impulsively.  Instead, he looks at the mage quizzically for a moment, with a confused look on his face.  Then he responds with a measured voice.  Haveron is a man who is accustomed to leading, and someone who has seen this reaction before.

"Gareth, you reacted with some sort of ownership over this...creature.  I assumed he was yours.  Perhaps that was incorrect?

Conjuring up a fireball could be interpreted as a defensive response to the creature's appearance.  Or, you could be defending him from whatever might have injured him.  Both interpretations seem legitimate considering I do not understand how magic works.  I am confused as to the situation.

I ask again, what is going on here?  Berry, you seem friendly with the creature, as you spoke to it that way.  Perhaps you can explain the situation without taking offense?"

"Var? He was with us on the caravan trip. He's my friend slash minion. He sometimes wanders off or poofs in. He's reasonably sneaky which can come in handy. Calm down everyone. He's trustworthy. Well, he wouldn't do something that would hurt me. We can all calm down."

Haveron cocks his head to the side, although his voice softens some. "I never really associated the two of you together, although I did see him around.  I assume there is some magical reason why he travels with you?  Maybe if you take a minute to help me understand, I will be less confused when he arrives like this out of no where.  With Gareth reacting so strongly, I was unsure how to take things."

Seeing the situation resolving itself, Gareth turns his attention back to Berries servant.

"You usually are not so obvious, or damaged. Should we be expecting guests?"

The dirty hippy watches with fascination the dynamic among his new traveling companions and employer. 'Ol Burke what'd ya gone an' get yerself inta? he thinks to himself.

Haveron watches the whole interplay carefully, and attentively.  As the discussion proceeds, he considers the abrupt arrival by Var from several different angles.  In the end, he nods at Amelia, and moves forward.

"I do not understand all of this magical discussion, but I do understand building a group of people you can count on.  We may not exactly agree on any number of things, but we can all agree that we need each other to succeed on this mission.  Var, I expect you to behave in a manner we would condone while you are with us.  Beyond that, the extra set of hands is appreciated.  Let's examine this man's gear, and them move forward with our task."

[Private to GM: Haveron would think about this in a fashion similar to his "create a company" drive.  Gareth, Var, and Berry seem to have their own little group.  He doesn't appreciate a rival company, but that sort of thing can happen with the different classes.  As mages, they just have things to discuss the average person cannot.  This all makes sense to him, and he is confident in his ability to lead the group.  Thus, I am ready to move on here.  Good opportunity for some RP, and I think we did pretty good with it.]
