Haveron makes a point of looking around to get a feeling for how the rest of the caravan seems to be handling themselves.  Based on what he was hearing, there was reason for concern.

"I have been telling people that Berry's hound was merely a conjured illusion, but I don't speak the language, and there are already tales about Var's abrupt departure.  The workers don't much trust the lizard priest, but they remember what he had said about our fire mage, because he is so distinctive. We would do well to keep a low profile from this point, and to leave town as quickly as possible. "

Haveron purses his lips in response to what Amelia tells him, and then pauses for a moment to think.  Then, in response he answers "I should speak with Hasim.  He will know the mood of the caravan guards better than us, and he speaks their language.  Given the recent attack, and the way the events unfolded, we need to smooth over their worry.  Otherwise, we may no longer be welcome."

OOC Can be done on screen or off screen, but Haveron feels that something needs to be done, and he's the man for it.

[Private to GM: I have many ideas for how Haveron should proceed here.

First, he has disadvantages that come in to play.  Haveron has a soldiers code of honor, and a sense of duty to his friends.  He may not care for the decisions Gareth made, but he's part of the group for now.  Haveron is going to try and smooth over the issue with the caravan liaison, which seems like Hasim.

Secondly, Haveron is obsessed with creating his own company.  To that end, I see 4 potential candidates for him to recruit as they travel.
Aldubu Alsaghir - Valdassyan Ranger (probably the best choice as a bowman)
Hasim ab Quadeer - Caravan guard (referred to as a Weapons Master, also a good choice)
Rakhis Shamir - Caravan quartermaster (a company will need logistics support)
Mischa - Half Elven Shevnian Artisan (skills unknown, but she could be a good fit, and he likes the ladies)

He'll look to recruit one over time as the travels continue, and if Mischa seems willing he might look into a side romance with her along the way.

In reply to Haveron Stormwal (msg # 5):

You can try a round of diplomacy.

[Private to Haveron Stormwal: Mischa is a male half shadow elf,
Aldubu the ranger is a 125 point archer. Hasim is a 250pt knight, and Rakhis is a 125pt  agent who is an ally of Murbak, the caravan Master. They already are an adventuring  company.

There will be some people available in Al Menir; for 4pts you can build a 62 point  guard; Amelia is an Agent. A 125pt  archer, skirmisher, or brute would cost you 8 points; the caravan run is 5 points, and you can probably drop a point on broken Valdassyan.

Haveron will leave the group and approach Hasim, to try and smooth things over.  He will gesture for Amelia to come with him, as she seems to be more skilled with people than he is.

"Hasim, it seems there has been some unrest among the caravan about some recent events.  Could you tell me what the concerns are, so that I may attempt to address them or allay your reservations?  Amelia here has some good observations that may help with any points of contention that may come up...."

[Private to GM: I think you missed a bracket in your last update, it appears to be public.  What I got from your answer was that none of the characters were available for Haveron to try and grow into his own company.

Also, Haveron does not have Diplomacy.  Would it be possible to substitute Leadership or Savoir Faire for the check?  I'm not sure he makes it regardless, but here's the roll, based on whatever you feel might be appropriate.
08:47, Today: Secret Roll: Haveron Stormwal rolled 11 using 3d6.  Diplomacy default or another skill...?

I'll make this observation in passing...  Haveron is poorly suited to lead a company as currently written.  He'll need more social skills if he's going to attract good people and start up a company.  Perhaps sprinkling a few points into Diplomacy and other social skills would be worth the time.  I know the original player had this obsession with growing a company, and that is my long term intent.  I am more focused on how a person would realistically get there.  Social situations like the one with Hasim are exactly where he needs to perform well if he's going to get work.

Haveron will continue.

"I do not expect the bandits will bother us again.  Would you please find me if you hear of any concerns among your guards or other caravan members?  I have heard rumors and seen some looks that may indicate disapproval, but I cannot be certain my observations are accurate.  You will know better than I if any of your people have reservations.

Thank you for your time, Hasim."

OOC Not sure if Hasim wants to respond or not, but when he is done Haveron will take his leave and return to the group of adventurers.  Ready to move on unless the Gareth issue decides to boil over (...heh...heh...).

Haveron will return to the group after his discussion with Hasim.

"Hasim didn't outline any specific concerns, but Amelia also offered some explanations for the behavior they have seen as well.  I hope that we smoothed over any concerns for now.  I think we should continue on like nothing happened."

OOC Ready to move on with caravaning.  That knucklehead E... Gareth has wasted enough of our time now.  :D

The way ahead is eerily quiet, but you make good time as you ascend further through the pass. At sunset you reach a spot that appears to have been used as a camp in the past, as it has a spring and stone rings of many old campfires. You can see the way down out of the mountains.

To the southwest you can see lights and smoke on the horizon, a narrow path heads up to the north, and disappears over the ridge.

The caravan makes camp for the night.
Gorgath, Adept Lisstheniss, Berry, Sorsha and Mischa are unaccounted for the watches, and there had best be two... Recommended that a fighter type stays with Gareth, and Sorsha or Berry team up with Haveron or Amelia. Shroud volunteers for third watch.
