The central area between what you suspect to be sod covered pits, is also sodded.

In reply to Dne Utrotare (msg # 4):

You can clearly make out three three yard-by-three yard square areas where the sod has been cut and relayed. The outer two have slight dips in the center, the central area seems well supported, and the grass on it seems less dried out.

Stop, hide, scan the area for trouble. If no-one is visible, circle around the central area, checking for traps and ambushes.

"I still hold a membership, for legal purposes. I started out as a mercenary, fought in the Pequenaud succession, and another couple of inter baronic conflicts further south. Then I did some caravan guarding befor becoming a road agent.
I also own the Whistling Wench and some other real property. This gig has been one of the best I have ever had, getting paid on both ends."

The two side pits about four yards deep have barely balanced pit wickerwork covers under the sod, a number of bodies full of crossbow bolts are in them. The area between them, about 4 yds square looks more solid.
