Mario will point out the door in question to Benito.

"Oh, yeah, this one needs some work, too."

OOC: I don't think I downloaded a copy of the map; is it still in your Google drive?

I am happy to have him work as directed, with rolls made as needed. Construction work details are unlikely to be extremely exciting...

In reply to Mario Crowfoot (msg # 116):

The gate that is damaged is through this chamber and then at the end of the large chamber at the right... There may be other ones damaged as you go further down.  Both this room and that one have walls that were destabilized by the collapse... the door was affected by the large visitor you had lower down.

Once Nodwin is done with Jareth, he will proceed down to join the remodeling crew.

"I can shape the earth to assist with repairs, but it will be tiring and time consuming.  How can I assist?"

OOC Have not used shape earth too much in games, so the finer points will be something of a learning experience for me.  Let me know for any rolls he needs to make, how to make it permanent, etc."

"We should confirm with Jareth and Nodwin, but I think priority should go to repairing the gate, shoring up the walls affected by the collapse, and getting a sturdy door with lock and bar in Brodak's hole.

"The walls are probably most urgent -- the fill project up above isn't going to help stabilize them, I wouldn't think, and if they collapse further, we'll have a problem."

Jareth approaches the hole and sticks his head through to see if it is clear in the next room.  If so, he climbs through.

Mario follows, bow ready (light stone still attached to the upper nock).

"Say, Nodwin, we might need to have these redone soon.  Didn't you say they last a week or so?"

Re: Living near the street collapse
Nodwin nods in assent.

"It depends on my faithfulness in the moment, which amounts to my connection to Vejovis.  It comes from the heart, though, and not from the deeds.  I can do things for the wrong reasons just as well as I can do nothing for the right reasons.  Our understanding of a god will always be imperfect at best.  All we can do is make educated guesses about their thoughts and motivations, and execute on them as best as we can.  Usually I get about a week out of the stones, because I hold the favor of Vejovis.  However, it varies sometimes by the minute, if I lose focus and let my thoughts wander.  My faith requires a certain mental discipline, in much the same way you must match your mental strength along with your physical skill to handle the bow as well as you do."

With that said, Nodwin steps through behind Jareth, with his staff ready for trouble.  While Jareth knew much about everything, he wasn't so great if they ran in to trouble.

"Oh, yeah. Sure" He looked as if startled making you perhaps wonder where his mind had wandered off to. But for now, he is back, with his eight legged friend in tow.

"Hang on, let me cast a few continual lights spells." He first renews his head Lamp to torch brightness, before making his lantern hook on his shield as bright as day. Then it occurs to him that he has indeed expended way more energy that he should have, as he is now exhausted...

"Uhh, I really did not think that through...perhaps I will stay here while Benito does some work, so I can recover my strength?"

Re: Living near the street collapse
In reply to Clarence Montague (msg # 131):

Through this long room with its unstable wall you go,into an archway. There is a small vaulted room with four exits. You head straight across, and are faced with something bizarre; a hoop of constructed of bone, about three yards across, thanking upright. Dim smoke colored runes hang in the air an inch or two in front of it, forming some type of Magic circle. The entire structure hovers about a foot off the ground.

Use of shape earth takes 10 fp/yard (-bonus for skill) to peelegantly hold the shape, the cost for shape stone is 10x the base also, otherwise the shape holds for 24 hours.

Re: Living near the street collapse
"Ymid said he'd closed the gate, but what gets me is how that worm managed to get through here even when it was open."  Mario seems unperturbed by the floating bone construct.  "It was big enough to fill the corridors.  Hmm.  Maybe it can squeeze down to fit through an opening smaller than it usually is."

He looks around sharply.  "Oh, sorry.  If you can't tell, Benito, there's some kind of magic here.  When it's open, this is a gate to another world, more or less.  I'm not sure I really understand it."

Have you been altering the deal again Darth Vader?

By the book:

Duration: 1 minute.
Cost: 1 per cubic yard of earth shaped (minimum 2). Half that to maintain (round up). Double cost to shape stone; sextuple cost to shape cut or worked stone, like a wall. Itís not easy to make your own door into the castle.

So our best bang for the buck (FP wise*) is to buy a load of bricks and unworked stone and use the unworked stone to mortar the bricks into place.  Otherwise the best ($$ wise) is to rework the worked stone back into a stable load bearing wall at 6 FP per cubic foot of stone.

* This is even accounting for sweat equity in ye olde "buy bricks and mortar and do it the old fashioned way", since we'll all be paying FP and time this way.

In reply to Jareth Mooncalled (msg # 135):

"It would seem this gate made of bones would be best closed unless you wand some kind of arena and a constant guard.

But to my mind the old fashioned way of sweat and tears is the best way to rebuild these walls. It is what I specialize in, with Civil Engineering to make it stable. I have been reading up on Architecture to make it look pretty too but down here that would be pretty irrelevant I suspect.

If you can shape the earth for 24 hours to enable me to create a solid wall when it gos back into place it should be stable right?

"Gate be closed, hence why t'ere ain't t'e light an t'e wierdness an t'e monsters comin out.  Now, if ya mean 'closed off', as in, room sealed 'side for strong door, I agree."

Jareth pats it a few times.

Re: Living near the street collapse
Nodwin for the most part ignores the discussion of the bone gate for now.  He was curious to see what was beyond it, and so he secretly wanted to go into it and explore at some point, when he was more experienced.

When it comes to the architecture question, however, he does pipe up. "I don't have experience with these things, so you tell me what you need.  I can shape a pillar to support the ceiling while you do your work, or we can make some other arrangement.  Vejovis has granted me the ability to move earth, but you're the expert in how to shape it so it's structurally sound."
