Re: Temple Hill

In reply to Goran the Marked (msg # 200):

Urrun breathes in the fresh air at the entrance, free from demonic and otherworldly taint. Neither of these priestly men, the yooman and the dwarf are civilized. Regretfully, Urrun may have to see them done with this place to be made free of the Hadereum so that he might join some of the bouda in this town and be among his own people.

Re: Temple Hill

Urrun considers the choices with distaste, it's almost worth going back to the wilds, although that was a tough life with little future.
If he could fly, he'd pee on the Hadereum again. But the reality was that he had to see these weird savages through their task ... he howls his frustration, nose high in the air,  then turns and heads back in ...might as well get it over with.

While the yooman is still trying to build a pyre, The short one is trying to knock over a rock... that seems more bearable to deal with.

In reply to Urrun (msg # 205):

You topple the altar stone, smashing it, and something subtle shifts in the room.

The dead flowers hardly make a good pyre, but can start one.

(Create and shape fire may be necessary without a lot of fuel,)

The other archway has yet to be explored

Re: Temple Hill

In reply to Goran the Marked (msg # 208):

The other two enter a small domed room with a two faced statue of Janus, the god of doorways. He is pointing to a blank wall between archways with his staff, and holds a key th his other hand.
The room has four blank archways, each supported by a different style of pillar, doric, ionic, corinthian, and composite.

Before the statue is an altar with a book.

Re: Temple Hill

In reply to Hograth Podkarmen (msg # 210):

The book does not seem to go with everything else in the room. The cover is glossy and irridescent,  the writing is in a language you have never seen, although a few characters resemble the graffiti
from the defacement of the other altar.
There are diagrams, but they hurt your eyes to look at. Some resemble demonological summoning circles, others look like the lines move whrn you glance away, and some times it looks like the page is further away than the writing is, or like the writing is actually enourmous, and you are looking at it from a great distance through a page shaped hole.

Tmake a will roll.

If that succeeds,  make a per roll about the statue.

Urrun avoids staring too deeply into the book. And also notices scrapes in a circle on the floor around the square base of the statue.

Re: Temple Hill

In reply to Hograth Podkarmen (msg # 215):

The statue looks like it pivots to point at the blank archways. The four of them each have a different type of column: each of them has fluted columns, the entry you came through has smooth ones, with scrollwork tops.
The doric colums are fluted, with simple rounded capitals.
The ionic columns are fluted and have scrolling capitals similar to the tucan columns you entered through.
The Corinthian columns are fluted and have capitals shaped like curled leaves.
The Composite columns are fluted and have a blend of both leaf and scroll shaped capitals.
The altar is simple, supported by four tuscan columns like the doorway, and has simple panels between the colums, marked with a frieze of spirals. The top of the altar has no signs of the kind of marks that blood sacrifice leave.

The book on the altar is not written in a script you know, feels wrong, and should be brought to the Hadereum.
The statue of Janus has good workmanship, and is orthodox in its theological representation, suitable to the same pantheon as Hades.

In reply to Narrator (msg # 216):

"The Book needs to be taken to the Hadereum. Perhaps the statue as well. Lets look at that pivot mechanism, to see how it works..."

He puts the book into his pack and begins to play with the statue to work it out some.

The statue pivots surprisingly easily. toward which doorway are you pointing?

[Private to Narrator: doric winter- barbarians, ice trolls, ice wyrms, giants, and the winter court of faerie; ionic- spring, rapid plant life, giant rabbits, faeries, and Persephone; Corinthian- summer, the summer court of faerie; composite eternal autumn as per Castle Greyhawk and critters from pumpkin spice]
