Oh. So who else wants to set up such a lab? Since I have a good quality kit, we probably should work together, if they can be trusted...

Nodwin smiles in a benevolent manner.  "I am planning to set up my flock with some herbology supplies, so they can make healing salves.  We intended for me to pass on some of that knowledge, so you don't have to do everything."

I will need some rolls, engineering and masonry and carpentry.

The refugees are farming serfs, with agricultural  skills.

Selling the stone is a sgnificant acton, and a jeweler or armory melee weapons roll at -2  needs to be made to extract without ruining it.

Brewing immediately useable potons taes hours to a day. Brewing saleable o es take at least a week.

OOC:  We weren't going to sell it.  But having Benito remove it is a bonus since he's already trusted by us.  Finding a trustworthy jeweler was a small concern.

Re: Hunting for a specialty shop
In reply to Jareth Mooncalled (msg # 945):

In addition to properly securing the broken entrance to the bone gate (Iron bound door with lintel and post framing, repaired masonry, and space for a padlock), he has successfully retrieved the stone from the sword. Note that replacing semiprecious stones in the sockets left in the blade will increase its sale value to Ornate and add the value of the stones (adding +1 CF to sale price) if you want to go that route. The weapon is also usable by anyone with broadsword skill, but I believe the plan was to sell.

OOC: increasing the sword to Ornate at the cost of a topaz or peridot to fit the setting will almost certainly be a gain.  Even a cateye or moonstone might do it.

Re: Hunting for a specialty shop
OOC:  The Puissant Thrusting Broadsword ($5,500), by itself, is more value in loot than everything else we've brought in*.  So... just like with the stone several people clamored to "keep for themselves", anyone wanting this would need to cough up a payout to the group, either now, or in perpetuity...

* By 'everything' I'm clearly not including the Wish Stone.  Nor am I necessarily including the 'true value' of the Book of Demon Summoning, since I'm still not sure how much gwythaint is charging for Restoration†,  I know what DFRPG charges canonically, but "prices of spells" seem to be in flux going back and forth from 3e, to 4e, unknown as the years have gone by.

† By DFRPG pricing for Restoration, the Book of Demon Summoning puts all the loot we've accumulated at slightly more than the Puissant Thrusting Broadsword by itself.

And yeah, since no one has the Broadsword skill, we basically decided to go the "sell it" route.  However that was 1 year day ago, so if someone has changed their minds, speak up.

Also, remember the plan for the stone was to create a fully kitted out Alchemy Lab in the 'basement' for Jareth, Jocelyn, and Nodwin.  This was before Benito joined, but Benito could get in on this as well.  Though there may be limits as to how many people could use it (by the initial calculations it would give 3 Alchemy Workshops worth of equipment (with some ingredients already in it) or 1 Good Quality Alchemy Workshop (with further investments required) - we hadn't decided on which direction we wanted to go, though my leanings was on 3 workshops over 1 Good one).

In reply to Jareth Mooncalled (msg # 951):

Benito has his own Good Quality Alchemy Kit, but he would be reluctant to share it with refugees he does not know! But by the same token, if he had his own workspace, he could get to know and trust some of them in time. Hence, 3 basic alchemy workshops would be his call.

However, for now, definitely going the 'sell it' route with the sword, and if someone has a gem, he can add it, for a share of the profit, of course.

As such, we probably need to know some prices:
Stone value.
Sword Value without stone.
Sword Value with a new gem, and value of said gem.

What should he roll for said values?

Agreed.  I wasn't planning to let the refugees down into the basements/sewer levels until things are a) very secured, and b) someone has them as a loyal Ally.

Benito Drake:
As such, we probably need to know some prices:

We already know all that (kinda).  It's a Puissant ($5000) Thrusting Bastard Sword ($750).  (the previously mentioned $5,500 is a misreading from somewhere along the way)

Not sure if gwythaint meant it's also Ornate (which was never mention initially) and just needs a gem to regain that value (+1CF so +$750) or if he means "add the value of the gem".

Or both?  GM, some input?

Adding gems would boost the price both by the cost of the gems, and ornate, because it doesnt count as ornate due to the damaged areas where the stones had been.

The aim is also to have Benito handle sales, he is rich enough to get close to list price (80% at wealthy, 100% if very wealthy) instead of 40% taking 10% off the top, 15% if greedy) is more than worth it.

Re: Hunting for a specialty shop
Perhaps a silly question, but would it be worthwhile to take the gold nugget and use that for an inlay instead of a gem?  Worth more, worth less?  Not worth the time at all?

[Private to GM: Also, Nodwin has See Secrets (14), Seeker (14), and Move Earth (14) as Holy spells.  Naturalist is a 12.  You could argue that the pursuit of wealth for it's own sake is not a worthy pursuit.  However, the pursuit of wealth, to provision a herb lore lab, which would in turn be used for healing salves for the poor...  And for the benefit of his flock of refugees...  That might be considered a worthy cause.  I believe we were pushing his Theology (Vejovis) up to a 12.

I'll make some rolls, and then you decide how to use them.  Perhaps we can cut to the chase if a gem is buried somewhere close.  He could move it through the earth to pop up somewhere local, and that would give Benito something to work with.  Then we could be on with adventuring.

OOC:  By RAW?  Depends.  If Benito can sell at 100%, it adds nothing.  If he can't, it's worse.  Gold gives it's value, period.  Using to increase the sale value of something only adds value if foe some reason you can't sell the gold as gold.  otherwise inlaying something with gold literally can only reduce the value (of the gold) for sale purpose.

Now, if you want to use it to inlay something you own to increase its value as a Power Item...
