Hunting for a specialty shop

"I can cast seek, secrets are revealed to me, and I can also sense magic, and auras.. and sense and turn spirits...Could be, that I could be of service."
Grimaldi replied, casually.
"I'm a fair swordsman, and I rely on finesse, to win the day. I have many useful elemental spells. Spells useful for adventuring above and below ground, defensive spells, and more..
I know some about the undead. I know my way around the city, and I know how to get along in high society, and if the group needs to move discreetly, I can stealth along, or independently as needed.."

"Well, um, Sederic, was it?  Simply cutting up the spellcaster may not accomplish our goals; the Hadereum wants him alive for questioning.  They believe he may be protected from interrogating his spirit after death.

"However, I am confident of my ability to render him unconscious without killing, if I am protected from things I cannot parry or dodge long enough to get close.

"It is also possible the one we seek is actually a demon of sorts, and killing his body on this plane may simply banish his spirit back to his home dimension until one of his minions is able to summon him back.  As such, he is likely to be resistant or immune to damage done by common weapons."

Ardenas lays a silver knuckleduster on the table.

"Sederic, I understand your sword is magical?  What about you, Grimaldi?"

"Hmmm. My sword is magical, and I am yet to meet something it does not harm. But not killing it is rather a...complication. Perhaps my best use is to deal with any allies he might have then. I am not big on the whole capturing demons idea though."

In reply to Ardenas Barehand (msg # 42):
"Nay, I do not possess any special weaponry, yet.. I can cause my sword to blaze with flames, and I have some nasty lightning spells. Demons aren't my forte', but any minions shouldn't be a problem for what I can deal out.. Most things that cross us tend to wind up dead. I'd hate for Sederic and I to be considered liabilities on your little endeavor here, but fair warning...Money is always a great motivator for overcoming our bloodlust."

"Flaming sword, lightning.  That should cover what's needed.

"Seems like we need to convince Mancini we'd rather have the two of you than Ludlow.  I won't fault his power, but I just don't trust the guy.  He seems accident prone."

"Follow me, Oly.  You two, stay here for a moment."

Ardenas moves over to Mancini, lowers his voice and leans close to one ear.

"Listen, I think we can do better.  These two guys have magic and weapons -- one has magical weapons!  Ludlow's too well known, too -- a half-blind idiot could spot that hair."

Mancini sighs. He leans back and whispers so that only Ardenas can hear him.

"It seems Ludlow has decided not to honor our agreement. That will have to be with later. For now, and it being on such short notice, I am not disinclined to using the two spellswords. However, I did kind of want to see how they fought in mock combat. I never buy a cow without sampling the milk."

" I was going to ask Norman to put them through a trial, and report back to me his impressions."

He looks around for a second, and not immediately seeing his favorite guard, comments, "Say, have you seen him? Usually, I can spot him, even in disguise, but I haven't seen him since we left the cultists second lair..."

Mancini smiles briefly when he sees Norman. "I was afraid something had happened to you, buddy. Especially with all these crazy cultists running about Northport."

He quietly informs Norman of his idea of testing Sederic and Grimildi in mock combat before accepting them in the group. "What do you think? Or do you know of a better way of testing the two? I just don't want myself or anyone else killed by these cultists and their dark desire," he said so that only Norman and Adrenas could hear.

To speed the plot along:

Norman escorts both men down to the arena, where they spar for several minutes, and then return.

He tilts his head first toward Grimaldi, and then a little later to Sederic.
"This guy is as good as I am. The one with the fancy sword is better. I have no idea how to gauge their spellcasting, but I guess they would be middle range, as neither has any guild standing beyond 'No Hassles'."

He turns to Adrenas. "Since Norman has vouched for their fighting abilities, and anyone has got to be better magically than Ludlow, they have the job. Gather the rest of the crew and let's meet in my apartment. We need to plot out how get into this demonic bookstore."

With that, Mancini gets up and goes to tidies up his apartment. He wanted as few ears as possible.hearing their next steps.

"Well then, little one. You have something to chop up, I am your man! Lead the way...no, I am pretty sure I was born here. Say, do all Leprechauns have a pot of..."

The sudden glare from the smaller creatures ends that sentence right there.
