Nodwin shakes his head in response to Clarence.  Quietly, sort of under his breath, he tells his friend "I don't think that's a good idea.  But if you go I'll come along."

He moves towards the door...

Ardenas puts a hand on Clarence's shoulder.

"I wouldn't.  But if you do, be careful."

Nodwin follows Clarence, with a nod towards Ardenas.  "You could come too, if you are also curious about what's behind that door."

"Aye mate, sometimes good help hard summon up..." he pats the pocket he's holding shut from which issues a muffled squeaking and chuffing.

"But notice ya skip t'e last question, which be off interest t'e four armed divine finish up sneezin an comes out here.  So, 'fore she get all hot an bot'ered to run ya through wit'out nary say in, ye demonic or just practitioner?"

"I only work for them, and only need to engage them when serious requests are made. On the other hand, the local workers  pass through here as they see fit."


Kalima staggers out of the room with the candles...

"Understood.  Fy patron can be tryin at times too," Jareth commiserates.

"Curious, yes, but I'm tied up with Mancini's business at present, along with Aoife and Oly."  He pauses and looks around the shop, as if to verify that Oly is actually here somewhere.  "If that business takes us through this door...  But it won't.  Kalima is a demon hunter, and we're hunting demons for the Hadereum."

Oly has gone into his 'don't be obvious" mode...  he has looked at a lot of stuff and is several aisles away from Ardenas ... but he has decided he won't touch anything.  He isn't sure, but he just gets bad vibes from everything here, and smart smugglers listen to those vibes.  He heads for the door they came in, slowly so as to not raise any interest, but he wants to be near the exit.

Mario, having looked over the back room with its pentacle and candles, turns back toward the main shop.

"Jareth?  The goblin and that sword guy we just met seem to have got away, but I don't see a door."

In reply to Mario Crowfoot (msg # 654):

"A gate has been opened here; It appears to be in use again... and there is this one, of course." the Ymid gestures to the glass door.

"A gate?  In use again?!"  Mario raises his bow, which had drooped while his attention was on a different problem.  His fingers brush across the fletching of the two silvered arrows in their quiver.

"Any way to tell if it's incoming?"

"Mario, be ready shoot this guy," he points his thumb at the shopkeeper he's been idly chatting with, "if look like he's 'bout make trouble.  Try not to kill 'em, might be what's keepin this place toget'er."

Jareth moves towards the backroom Kalima just came from and the demon and Sederic disappeared into.

Mario shifts to ensure that the shopkeeper can't use cover.  "A knee, you think?  Or a foot?"  He makes a show of looking at the man's footwear.

"Shoot wherever ya think best, just don't shoot unless have to.  If not demon he can still repent t'e infernalism... or whatever Kalima require."

Mario looks at the shopkeep.

"I don't have anything against you.  Let's keep it that way."

In a lowered voice, Mancini begins, "You are right that a lot of the items can be used for good or ill. But I ask you to consider a few things as well. One, we definitely don't want to aid those spreading mischief in these parts by allowing an easy source of supplies. Two, it is said the easiest place to hide something is in plain sight. Just because most of these things seem mundane, though curious, doesn't mean they all are. Do you know what all the items are, or all possible uses? Three, this place is pure chaos. Chaos is like a forever splitting fire. You put one bit out, and another flame springs to life. Even if you manage to put it out, the devastation is massive. Not to mention that while you have been dealing with the fire, your defenses have been left underprotected from the forces of evil."

He turns towards Clearance, voice still low, "The original plan was for me to enter with a few more unsavory types and place a locator within the shop. Then, return later and capture the shopkeeper with the aid of reinforcements and alert the Haedereum. At the time, it was a group of four... Now it seems half of Northport is crashing at the Devil's bookstore."

He follows the stranger.

Nodwin states "I will go with you, but we have to come back soon.  I have a flock to lead."

Nodwin follows Clarance and the stranger.

[Private to GM: Maybe overplaying the curiosity, but the store is just confusing to Nodwin.  Not a comfortable place for him.  And he has to keep Clarance safe.  No one else seems at risk, but the unknown might be dangerous. ]

Ardenas reaches out a hand -- and then lets it fall.

"Good luck, you two.  Anyone else going with you?"
