"Just lemme get a good look over."  Aldous examines the barrel and surrounding floor, including the area where one would have to stand to try to move the barrel, looking for trips, plates, and such.

Something clicks inside Porters head when he glances at the arm band.  He's pretty sure he's seen it before.

OOC:
Head down into the basement.  Help the general clean up.  Fisher will move to the nailed barrel as that is the most interesting thing present, but for now he'll let others deal with it.

As you head down the steps it hits you, the blood drop on white is the symbol of a gang of bullies who call themselves purists.

The lid of the barrel looks like it might come off, and it is hollow, but not quite like an empty barrel.

"Okay, look here, Sven.  The head moves.  In a proper barrel it would be tight.  I think this entire barrel is a sham, built to look like a barrel but conceal something inside."

Aldous begins manipulating the head, trying to release it so it will lift off.

The barrel lid lifts easily. Within is a lever that looks like it might reach back to the wall.

Fishers mouth moves into a little 'o' as he utters a soft “oooooooooo”.

OOC:
Shield is on left arm.  Sword is sheathed.  Act in a supporting role.  Follow behind the others as they investigate.

Porter would have laid the pamphlet on the bar and mention they ran into Purists in the streets.

OOC: is porter being portrayed as an oaf? (9-8 IQ) asking for a friend. So far he seems like kinda a goober. xD

"Let's see -- the lever goes into that side, moves this way, so the pushrod has to run either there, or there."  Aldous points to the likely routes for the lever's action as he puzzles out what the lever is likely to operate.

In reply to Aldous Hack (msg # 577):

The barrel is near a corner, so one of the walls directly behind the barrel are likely to be affected.

There is a door opposite and to the right of the barrel area, at the far end of the long wall that has a gate... around the bend from the barrels and opposite the gate is a long unused fireplace that is nevertheless slightly warm.

So walls in this corner would adjoin the shop next door (Bakery?) and the street?

Nana sweeps a mound of dung and debris onto the tarp, from the corners.
She stops, surveying her work nodding.

"Which doors, Sven?"  Aldous turns from his concentration on the lever mechanism, looks around to orient.  "The bakery is that way," he points, "so this way would go under the street."  He points again, at a right angle.  "There's a gate like that one under the Guild hall.  The one there leads into the undercity."

OOC: Absolute direction, so the pointing will be accurate.
