Back in Town

Aegis grunts as much as anything else in response to Madeline, then responds.  "I kill stuff.  They do the discreet things..." as he gestures to the rest of the group around him.  He then leans back in his chair, and takes a nice long pull from the large drought of ale in front of him.  He'd gone with something a bit stronger after their success with Balar.  Quite simply, he had enough coin to sleep it off upstairs if he needed to.

"Someone poisoned the Mageguild representative, which is not in itself bad thing, but they are sending agents to investigate... it would be ideal if they... were unsuccessful. Several paries would be pleased if they... withdrew their attentions."

Aegis leans back in his chair and takes another long pull from his ale.  He can barely control his mirth, and doesn't want anyone to see the large smile crossing his face.  The very idea of this group messing with the mage's guild was hilarious.  He could only imagine how much chaos would ensue.  People might get killed, stuff might get burned...  The whole idea just seemed like it would be a lot of fun.

Once he could control the smile on his face, Aegis responds "Soonds lik fun."

Anyone with Thaumatology can make a base IQ roll regarding knowledge of the Mageguild, which nominally has an office in the Merchants Quarter to vend and regulate alchemical ingredients, potions, and occasional scrolls and magic items, although mostly they will cast spells for pay.

"Just because the victim died, doesn't mean he can't answer questions," Darius said. He sat down next to Aegis, a choice he immediately regretted given the alcoholic smell emanating from him. He closed his eyes, as much for shutting out their environment as to to recalling what he knew of the mage guild. If only he'd paid more attention to the organization and doings of those with less elegant magical abilities.

Aegis laughs heartily at this, combined with a belch.  Overall, the explosion of mirth from his mouth causes small droplets of ale and drool to shower everyone in front of him.

Either Aegis doesn't notice, or could care less.

Instead, he responds with a rather large and somewhat sadistic looking smile.  "Weesh I cud see dat fer meselv.  Got lotsa secrits ta shere.  Luv to sea da luks on peeples' faces."

The thought of that kind of chaos just makes him smile a little more.  The ability to get back at all the people who wronged him even after death...  Well, that was something he could drink to, and so he does.

'BRRRRRAAAAAP'

He feels much better after a second belch.

"An idiot?" He smiled. "How could they tell?"

Darius leaned back, then noticed a small droplet of hopefully-ale on his sleeve. "Unfortunately, curing stupidity turns out to be more difficult than curing death."

He wiped the droplet away, then turned his attention back to Madeline. "Since replacing such a representative is always possible, there's probably just three reasons they'd poison him. Personal issues, a statement, or a temporary advantage for a rival of the guild. Do you know anything of the latter?"

Aegis chortles.  Loudly.  Then he offers some ale to the bird man from his tankard.

There is a considerable amount of drool on the rim, some of which has dried there.

As a servant of good, the Idea is not appealing to the Sun-priest, although he can always opt against this particular job, whearas the more morally gray members of the team can continue to pursue this. There are other ways a celestial cleric can find work.
