Returned from the Abbey

Jednesa once again tries to set pace, belting out tremendously upbeat marching song, once again with a pace set for longer legs...

"To byl triumf!
Tady zpívám notu, obrovský úspěch!
Je těžké zveličovat mou spokojenost!
Velká armáda,
 děláme, co děláme, protože můžeme.
Pro dobro nás všech,
 kromě těch mrtvých.

Ale nemá smysl pláč,
  přes každého mrtvého přítele.
Jen se dál snažíte,
  dokud vám nedojde na konci.
A boje skončily,
 a ty provést kořist hromada,
pro lidi, kteří jsou stále naživu.

Nejsem ani naštvaný,
 právě teď jsem tak opravdový.
I když jsi snědl mé srdce a opustil mě.
A roztrhal mě na kousky,
a hodil každý kus do ohně.
Když já spáleno to bolí protože,
byl jsem pro tebe tak šťastný.

Nyní tyto hromady kořisti mají krásný lákat.
A vy jste vypnutý z pole,
  ty jsi pochodujete doma.
Když já spáleno to bolí protože,
za všechno kořist my zasloužit si...
Pro lidi kteří jsou stále naživu."

Ahem, let's not go deciding what is going to be sold before giving others the chance to even find out what they are?  ;)

Gwythaint, I think also we need to know what the base time to read and learn from each book is (as well as the benefit), and then each of us can access our desire to read them knowing our own Speed-Reading, Eidetic Memory, or linguistical disadvantages on our own...

(Jednesa and Stenet can't read the languages of other races, and Jednesa is very likely to fail any self-learning rolls)

A 10 minutes for the primers, 1/2 hour for the fairly large ones.
The valuable scroll is exceedingly rare, it has the spell resurrection on it, pre cast, but needs a shit ton of FP to actualize.
Most books could be used to learn or raise knowledge in their field as if taught. The demonskin book is a thesis on demonology whose materials grant bonuses. The spells are varied and extensive and i can give a list.

The theoligical works are very specific to triunists, there is a bunch of them at the cathedral, who might exchange bless spells for goods.
The Hadereum is buying demonology texts to burn.

If the demonology texts are useful for hunting Demons or learning how to stop others summing them, she would be interested.

She can read them, and then sell them, right?

With those times, she will read them under the auspices of an exorcist!

To diverge again from DF
I do not charge the training costs from DF.

To learn a new, unpracticed skill, you need an instructor or an instruction set (primer, manual, thesis). (Cultural skills are often done without this if you are spending your time immersed in the culture).
To increase a lore skill (for example) you need axcess to texts, a place to do research, or an instructor.
If you already have more points in a a skill than the book offers, you need other training. If you have fewer points, you can spend up to a total in the skill equal  to the books limit.

Spells need a text, an instructor, or a bunch of research and thaumatology rolls.
Fighting an opponent similarly armed with equal or greater skill is grounds for spending points on the skill.
I need to consider how to raise skills when you are without peer.

No one should ever be "without peer".

If you're actually going to start charging for skill increases (and if you are this should be posted in the faq and the OOC thread) then remember how little you're giving in rewards and account for the increased cost this will bring on the Characters trying to buy new skills and abilities.  And if you're only charging skills, that means more abilities and attributes will be purchased...

Or, to make it simpler... I suggest either not charging training costs at all, or use the costs as given in DF 3 or DFRPG Exploits (or a combo of voth as a few costs are different).

Just post it eh?

Re: Returned from the Abbey

I am still not happy with the pricing for advancement in DF3 and DFRzpG, I have only been charging spells. I will compare the cost per day/week of instructor vs the recommended costs, I want things a little cheaper. This will get posted.

The herbary has 2 points for herb lore, I suppose it could be used for 1 point to pharmacy:herbs and gardening instead. esoteric

****Please tell me if I posted points prior to the arrival of the D'Ivore troops; if I haven't,  everyone gets an additional  12 points, There was an awful lot of play before that,  and I thought it was broken up.********

(The npcs get 0.25 to 0.5 of that for later hiring. Walter is retiring to buy a boat.)
The primary change to summon elenental was due to excessive  customization of created elementals. I rolled that back, and suggested it would be fp cheaper (and more lotal) to have a summonable ally instead, more in keeping with DF9.

Natural demonologist is a version of the Alternate Path perk, as per DF15, the only variant I use iui s Natural Elder Cultist, both still require magery or power investiture of some kind.
The esoteric medicine book follows a holy tradition.

Yeah, I think I know who broke the system with customisable elementals...those living fireballs were hell for the trolls though, but now she cannot repeat them, she is very mundane, and basically needed to be reinvented.

She could go back to creating normal elementals though as per the spell, but sticking with the templates? It is a bit expensive, though...

Natural Demonologist is from DF15 in the part about  bad hirelings, and the suggestion was to give them magery1, the perk, which is really just Alternate Path, and a point in summon demon. I did the same for Broderick's bad henchmen, giving Natural elder Cultist to someone with power investiture1, and planar summons.

Re: Returned from the Abbey

In reply to Christine Bjorn (msg # 14):

Ok by my maths, the value of everything given in post #8 was $70,612. The base value for average wealth gets 40% of that, or $28244.8 total. Out of that, Walter gets $450, leaving $27,794.8 to be shared between 8 of us, or $3,474.35 each.

Now of course, some of us want some of those items. Since we only get 40% for selling them we only subtract 40% of their value from our share.

Christine is interested in keeping the following items for now though happy if any wish to study from them. If anyone else is interested in any of them she is happy to discuss that. IC or OOC?

Demonskin book $1600
Unnamed occult textbook $100
The Guild Book of Secrets of the Second Order (spells) $200
A Herbary $50
1 amulet +3 vs evil $2500

These come to $4,450, buy we would only get $4,450 x 0.4 = $1780 from selling them. Therefore she gets $3474.35-$1,780 = $1,694.35 plus the items above. Make sense? Everyone happy with that arrangement?

In reply to Razael (msg # 42):

Also using

Unseen but not Unheard  $75
Black book $75
Finality of Flesh $80

Total of $92 if anyone wants to purchase them, otherwise sell them when we are done.

Christine would also like to investigate Spider Silk Cloth armour, though she lacks the cash now.

Also, can she get a Balanced Silver-coated Orichalcum Jo...
2 lbs, $400, with Staff enchantment, holds up to 4 points as powerstone.

Re: Returned from the Abbey

First I apologize for having been mostly absent the last few weeks (and diminished the last few months), I've been stupidly tired and sometimes I look at a thread and say "I cannot respond right now without being an asshole, so let me wait until I'm not going to be an asshole" or like this thread "There is too much maths, brain no math, return when math can".

That said, let the accounting (and questions and requests) begin.

Narrator:
There are 9 people, one of whom (Walter) is getting a much lower share; his agreed upon pay would have been $450.

I count 8?  Am I missing someone:

Azrael, Christine, Dareos, Haskell, Jednesa, Malga'Mar, Stenet, Walter.

This means once Walter takes his smaller cut, we're splitting it 7 ways.  (And for proper accountant geekery, what is Walter's share rate?  Half?  A flat $450?)

My accounting (and notes), because I can't see where any of you are getting your sums:

Requests and Questions:

As a Player I request Jednesa get the Amulet vs Evil.  One, she's already wearing it, two... she has really low Will.  Also I recommend she be given the Large potion of Minor Healing.

GM:
How much would it cost to "upsize" that Maul into a one handed mace for Jednesa (no other statistics changes aside from SM)?  For example adding grip wraps and balance weights she she can easily wield it one handed?  I was thinking the difference between "base weapon" costs.

Yes, I know it actually does less damage than her Crude Iron Wedge... but it's got Puissant, and the Wedge cannot be enchanted.  Otherwise I'll contemplate alternate routes for magical weapons for her.

Stenet might be wanting the Plate Armor, pending the question I ask below, or the Maul, pending answers above.

Stenet recommends everyone take 1 anti-demon candle (the good one).  He might want to take the rest, pending accounting outcomes.

Finally Stenet may or may not request all the Scrolls, pending answers about their value, as noted below.

I'm waiting some answers on books before getting into them, but only Stenet would care, and he's mostly interested in studying the unnamed, undescribed (Occultism), Magical Theory for the Neophyte (Thaumatology), slim black book (Hidden Lore (Demons)), The Unseen World (Hidden Lore (Demons)), Unseen But Not Unheard (Hidden Lore (Spirits)), demonskin book (Hidden Lore (Demons)), Illuminated Scripture of the Blessed Triskelon (Theology (Triunism)), Book of Binding and Bleeding (First Aid), The Four Humors and Their Balance (Esoteric Medicine (Holy)), Finality of the Flesh (Expert Skill (Thanatology))... but again this depends on answers to questions.

Re: Returned from the Abbey

With so many wanting to read/study so many of these books, perhaps we should form a group and have our own library. we can charge a small fee for anyone wanting to use a book IN THE LIBRARY, but will not allow anyone to take a book out of the library.

That way, w all benefit and perhaps we continue to work together, since we seem to have similar goals (dispatching demons).

I don't think that would work...  Number One, the Dismal Tower (Guild of Sages) would probably want to dissuade us from opening a public library.  Private libraries are one thing, but a public library that cuts into their schtick of being The Public Library?  Yeah...

B) Do you really want to see Jednesa as a librarian?  Or Pyrochick among the stacks of flammable materials?

And lastly, but most importantly, Stenet has reservations about a few members in the party and would only continue working with them on specific types of missions (large scale destruction missions specifically).

And here I am, a mild mannered good kid hanging around to get demons out of here...  I was thinking a Private Library in the Guild for Guild members.
So far Pyro-chick has not spontaneously flamed and I doubt Jednessa is interested, let alone able to get up into the Guilds upper floors. As to Stenet, all these religious freaks are weird and all of them think everything has to be there way or you are bound for hell. We'll let him use the library so long as he doesn't censor, damage, or attempt to steal even so much as a word from any book. He is entitled to his beliefs, but not to force those beliefs on anyone or anything else.

Okay, that might work, if the Guild doesn't already have a library (it has a Sage in it after all).

That's a might bit intolerant of the religious, especially of one who has shown no inclinations to be intolerant themselves... not every Holy Warrior has Intolerance (Other Religions)*.

Re: Returned from the Abbey

Quoting the whole thing so I can reference it

8 people, yes. You can pay Walter either his flat rate of $450, that plus a tip, or even a 1/4 share as you see fit.

Shorstwords were an error. Base is $400, resale $160

The fine, pussiant 2 handed mace has the sale price of 40% of its worth; the base cost iirc was $80 +cF 4 for a total of $400 pre enchantment.
It is effectively a SM+1 heavy mace, and could be used 1 handed by Jednessa with little modification, except maybe wrapping the handle to thicken it, which could be done crudely, for about $25

Songs on high is a primer of triunist hymns, worth 80% to triunists, and 40% of that to anyone else
Three faces is a Triunist manual of triunist theology, good for 2 points
The ways of True worship is a thesis on triunist religious ritual good for 4 points. These items, as all triunist items, are worth 80% to triunists, 40% to anyone else.

The wine should all be worth $64 per bottle

You can put points into any skill you have observed, used,
or recieve instruction in, by book or by teacher.
The last two methods are the only way to get more than 1 point
 in a hidden lore.

My prices are sometimes off as I am trying to open pdfs on one device, a calculator on another, and either switching back to a post, or handwriting it, which is where the error creeps in.

The platemail can be resized to fit a dwarf for a $25% cost
A primer can get you a point, a text 2, and a thesis 4; you can stack different sizes but not equal 9nes (primer+primer gains only 1 point, all three could get you 7)

[11 blank lines suppressed]

Choose how you pay out the torchbearer, then divide the remaining cash by 7. The most he would get is a quarter share; if so divide by 7.25.
The value of the items can be subtracted from each share.

The books get to be used, then sold; divide the total value of books by seven, and let folks take the books as a share, to resell later.

The ressurrection scroll is a whole other matter; it needs 300 FP to activate,  so it needs a dedicated circle to use it.

What Resurrection Scroll?  No such scroll was listed (I'm guessing it's in the book Finality of the Flesh).

Regardless, it should cost 20$ per point, so 600$, and resell* for $240.  I'll add it to my spreadsheet.

Fine is a +2 CF for crushing melee weapons.  So I take it I should adjust it down on my spreadsheet.

Did you mean that Long Knives are priced at $200 in this game not the $120 from DFRPP and Low Tech?

Songs on high is a primer of triunist hymns, worth 80% to triunists, and 40% of that to anyone else

The ways of True worship is a thesis on triunist religious ritual good for 4 points. These items, as all triunist items, are worth 80% to triunists, 40% to anyone else.

I don't know that I'd do that... unless there is a cost inherent cost in to trying to find a Triunist buyer (like it takes time + money spent + requires a roll which can be blown; Propaganda is the usual DF roll for "advertising for a buyer"), as this is ostensibly DF.

* - Standard DFRPG Pricing.  Anything not marked as such is taken straight from gwythaint's prices, some because I couldn't be arsed to track it down (the prices of books as per DF 4 Sages) and some because I couldn't be arsed to try to figure out where the price might have come from (Amulet of Evil Resistance +3).

[1] - All book prices presume not bothering to find specific buyers (since there are four books (possibly five) that could have added value and I didn't feel like getting into a prolonged back and forth).

For the record, this split leaves $6.40 on the table for adding to Walter's pay (ain't we fucking generous ;) ).

Stenet will argue that Walter get paid his agreed upon rate and no more (Greedy Disad).

[EDIT]
I've already found (and fixed) two errors in editing the prices, and my brain and eyes are stupidly tired, so give this a critical eye.  But, that said, I think all the prices are as correct as possible.

Fixed price of Resurrection Scroll.

Thank you. Some of my accounti g errors are ovrr a year old, the book pricing was from treasure tables, as were a number of others.
Tge amulet of demon resistance is new, I reverse engineered the price of a 5 point advantage with comparable values of other items in DFRPG Magic Items.

Understood.  I've yet to run a pbp... I can't even imagine trying to keep things like that straight from some many years ago.

quote:

Ah.  I wasn't even going to try to reverse engineer the price.  It was less than an Amulet of WillPower +3 ($15K) so I figured it was kosher.  Heck, even if it was more than an Amulet of Will +3, if it could stack with a [Item] of Will +3 it'd be worth it.

[EDIT]
Posted using wrong character.  Sigh, and I even have it set so I have to deliberately chose the character every time I post to avoid this this.

That's with everything (including books) being sold.

If you're choosing not to sell something (ie keeping it yourself), remove its cost your share.  If a group is going in on a library, pool the cost of the books, split that, and then remove that from your share (and each person going in on a library).

Exactly. Though because we have only accounted for 40% of the items value, that is the value to remove from your share. I would suggest selling the resurrection scroll to the triunists...unless someone wants it as a significant part of their share!

Except if we do that Stenet's share drops below what is needed to repair and claim the armor...

So Stenet will have to decline to... hang on, I just noticed something.

Where is that price coming from?  I won't argue if you want to give that to us... but it's not a price as set by the books...

Okay.  Hang on, I can back engineer this.  I forgot DFRPG sets Resurrection as a service at $15k,  so as a service it's charging $50 per point, where normal spells charge $5/point.  So an uncharged scroll should... /squints... well... $6k is close enough, so I accept the $10K and have adjusted the above chart with our slightly increased shares.

If y'all would like to finalize a list of books to keep, I can figure out the share cost.

Christine Bjorn:

I didn't see any mention of scrolls in your previous posts, but that really doesn't change shares.

  Pentagram spells

She would want to study and then sell:

Unseen but not Unheard-hidden lore:spirits 1 point

Black book-Hidden Lore, Demonology 1 point

A Booke of the Finality of Flesh- Thanatology 1 point

Reminder, but there has been a lot of discussion since this was posted. All of these are fine options for the library.

There was mention of Spider silk armour, +99 CF, applied to cloth Armour, cost $30, 6 lbs from Basics costing more. Is it possible to get the basic set of this that just covers Torso and groin for $3,000?

Also, can she get a Balanced Silver-coated Orichalcum Jo...
2 lbs, $400, with Staff enchantment, holds up to 4 points as powerstone.

So we're waiting on Dareos.

For the record, Stenet might go in on this if there's some sort of long term value to doing so.  He'd also argue for keeping at least one Triunist manual (probably the slimmest one).

Narrator:

Stenet sees no value in the supposed 'blessings' of foreign gods.

18:23, Today: Stenet Fjall rolled 13 using 3d6.  Trading Rez Scroll for non-fungible services.  Greed 12.

Also, note GM, in GURPS Magic a 3 point Blessing is more valuable than a Resurrection.  So if you actually mean 3 point Bless...  I think Stenet will reconsider, since a Resurrection is $15k (at that valuation rate a single 3 point Bless should be $25k, even a 2 point Blessing should be pretty up there - base $5 an FP is $250 per 2 point Blessing, and that's at the 'non-inflated' rate).  Unless Bless works differently in your campaign?

Okay, so Playerwise, it's just Stenet/Jednesa, Christine, and Razael remaining.

In that case, as long as we can see some profit* from the books in a Library, Stenet is in for donating them to, or helping create, a Library.

*  As in we get more than just the opportunity to "learn a skill up to [X] points".  For instance if we get lowered 'guild rates' on training costs in the future, or even the ability to toss a point towards "Guild Library Access" or something.

Jednesa doesn't really care and she won't be participating, so as a Player I expect she'll get paid her 'share' of the books value.

The following takes that into consideration:

This spilt leaves no tip on the table for Walter.
Stenet will argue that Walter get paid his agreed upon rate and no more (Greedy Disad).

Stenet wishes to purchase the Suit of Plate from the group.  He can no longer afford to take anything else (the armor is putting him in the poor house, armor + repair/resizing is $4,306.25... which is more than his share of this haul).

Jednesa's Player argues she should get the Amulet of Resistance to Evil, and will pay the group for this.

If Christine is keeping The Guild Book of Secrets of the Second Order for herself completely, she'll need to indicate that, as it will slightly, very slightly, change the accounting (if it's going into the 'Library' then don't worry about it).  Despite it being of no "personal value" to Stenet, if it increases the value of the Library he's all about it.

Otherwise, if you want to 'purchase' something from the Loot, just deduct it's Resale Value from your Share.

My thoughts were running towards 'donating' them to the Guild and thus gaining some level of access to the Guild's 'library' (if nothing else Aethelbert should have a closet full of books that he charges Guildies to access).

Cool.  Y'all might notice I forgot to include our pay for item retrievals as well...  so... errr...

I'll just be a minute while I re-account the accounting.  Stenet might not be dead broke (unless he makes exactly $625 more, in which he's buying a swank new helmet too.  $875 and it's full face).

I have enough to eat until we get paid ... then I will cheerfully contribute toward a library so long as I may have full access to everything in it. I am guessing that this Library may be a popular idea with other members of the guild and getting access to books may require being in a queue.
That way the GM can control mages who suddenly want to read/know everything overnight.

Christine would want to keep the following for the library.

I did not see the following in the list of books:

Unnamed occult textbook -occultism, up to 2 points

So we just calculate how many wish to contribute to the library, divide the cost of the library by that number and reduce out cash by that amount?

Christine will definitely want spider silk armour in that case!

I seem to have lost the thread where that was priced, but basically Christine would like the best spider silk armour she can afford, after paying for the Library and the Jo Below...

Also, can she get a Balanced Silver-coated Orichalcum Jo...

Re: Returned from the Abbey

Christine Bjorn:
Unnamed occult textbook -occultism, up to 2 points

It's listed as "unnamed, undescribed" and included in the list of books "For the Library".

In fact, every book that wasn't one of the "Triunist" religious texts (or hymnal) is in the "For the Library" (including the cheapest of the Triunist religious texts, just in case someone ever needs to study up).

quote:
So we just calculate how many wish to contribute to the library, divide the cost of the library by that number and reduce out cash by that amount?

Right now every single book is being set aside for the Library (except the Triunist books).  If you wish to "read it first" I'll leave that fight for the arena...

If Christine (or someone else) wants to keep some books for her(them)self, we'll have to figure that out separately.  But essentially it'll be "divide it it's sale between the other 6 people taken out of your share".

quote:
Christine will definitely want spider silk armour in that case!

I seem to have lost the thread where that was priced...

Head to toe Giant Spider Silk jammies are $15k.  GSS is CF x99, a suit of Cloth armor is $150.

quote:
Also, can she get a Balanced Silver-coated Orichalcum Jo...
2 lbs, $400, with Staff enchantment, holds up to 4 points as powerstone.

You cannot Balance a "fist or stick weapon".  Jo staves are "stick weapons" regardless of material (by RAW).

You can't get the Staff enchantment on "non-organic" weapons.  Orichalcum is metal.

As for the first... as per Kromm it's because the cost of the base weapon is too low.  It is suggested that if a GM is going to allow it they raise the base cost of the stick or fist weapon to that of a "comparable" weapon. A Jo does sw+1 thr+1, the next closest two-handed weapon that is comparable is a Monk's Spade which costs $100.  So treat the Jo as costing $100 for the Balanced upgrade...  the other recommendation is apply the material cost first, then the Balance cost.

Instead of Orichalcum you want Dragonbone (from DF 8 Treasure Tables) so you can put Staff on it.

Dragonbone CF +24
Instead of wood for shafts and handles, weapons may be made with hard, lightweight, alchemically treated dragon bone, which is as durable as orichalcum. Dragonbone weapons and projectiles have the same benefits as orichalcum: They don’t break, and other weapons have a +2 chance of breaking when parrying a heavy dragonbone one. Dragon bone isn’t flexible, so bows may not be made from it.

Lastly, you want Sylvan...

Sylvan Staff: The hardest wood known to elf-kind has -1 to odds of breakage and can be made fine (+2 CF) for another -1 to odds of breakage. Its density concentrates the force of blows, giving +1 to damage as well! Wooden sticks (batons, light clubs, quarterstaffs, etc.) only: +15 CF.

Sylvan makes it 'Elven' for that valued 10% Elven price break you cheaty Elves get.

(Kromm has allowed that making a Sylvan Dragonbone Staff is perfectly okay if you want to drop the $$$ on it)

Also, Kromm allows any Sylvan staff to have Balanced added to it after Sylvan (so apply the x4CF to $150).

Other modifiers you may have skipped;

Fine CF+2, adds +1 damage and decreases breakage by 1; Ornate +4 or +9, if you're thinking about going for a Power Item why not go whole hog; Silvered CF+2, for that day when you just have to beat a Wight to death with your staff.

Note, as per DF 8, Silvered counts towards part of the pricing of Decorative Embellishments, so Silvered CF+2 is equal to Ornate CF+1 (so you can reduce the CF of Ornate by 1 if you also make the item Silvered).

So... to sum up...

A Fine Balanced Silvered Sylvan Dragonbone Jo Staff (with Staff) is only $1,080 and has a PF 8 (based on a non-Enchanted price of $1,040).

Slap some Ornate on there at +3 ($80) and you slide up into PF 9.  Add another $300 in "jewels or gilding or etc" and you can hit PF 10 (non-Enchanted value of $1,420, remember the Power item chart rounds up to the nearest value).

[Fine $20 + Balanced $600 + Silvered $20 + Sylvan $150 + Dragonbone $240 + Jo $10 + Staff Enchant $40 = $1,080]

I mean, you've got $7k and unless you saved up some serious dosh from the troll warrens ya ain't buying them Spider Silk jammies any time soon.

Razael will ask for (again) the following books:

Since they're all going into the Library, they'll be plenty of time to read them.  Don't count them as 'anything' for 'shares' if you're plan is "read them, then put them in the Group Library".

Unless you want to own a book outright and not put it in the Library.  If so, I can recalculate for you (but I suspect Christine and Stenet might want an eyeball into those books as well).

quote:
Anti-demon candles
6
$100.00
$1,200.00
$480.00

Cheap anti-demon candles
4

$160.00

And the wooden box to keep them in.

This would come to $498, he will agree to share access with others and/or place these in a Library.

Six 'good' Anti-Demon candles come to $240*, four cheap Anti-Demon Candles come to $80* and the wooden box is $8*.

That's $328 out of your share, so just reduce your ahare by that much (so you're getting $6,847.05 instead of $7,175.05).

[EDIT]
Note, when I said Stenet wanted half the 'good' candles, I meant the not Cheap ones.  If you want all the not cheap ones, that's another $80 out of your share.

Notes
[1] Use lower DR against crushing attacks.
[2] Considered metal for the purposes of armor modifiers, lightning damage, reaction penalties in town, etc.
[3] Considered plate armor when adding armor modifiers or buying breastplates.

Armor Modifiers  (some of these modifiers are from my home game, but they were pulled from Low-Tech and DF 8 Treasure tables so the numbers are Kosher).

Armor – like weapons and shields – can have modifiers. These result in cost factors (CF) that affect price as explained for weapons: multiply list cost by (1 + total CF). Most are specific to particular kinds of armor!

Cheap: This might be mass-produced munitions armor, issued to an army’s rank and file; alternatively, the armor could be the work of an inexperienced armorer, or incorporate low-grade materials. Cheap armor has -1 DR. -0.6 CF; weight is unchanged.

Dark One Living Armor: Leather and scale. The result of magically assisted “genetic engineering,” this armor is a living colony of remarkable lichens that works to treat the wearer's injuries. After any cutting, impaling, or piercing injury to a location protected by the armor, roll 3d.  On 15 or less, a sticky secretion covers the wound; when the battle ends, the wearer instantly enjoys the benefits of bandaging. If a limb protected by such armor takes crippling injury, the wearer has +1 on the HT roll to determine the crippling wound's duration. +49 CF.

Dragonhide*: Heavy leather armor (DR 2) can be dragonhide. This provides from +1 to +4 DR, depending on the dragon, and double that DR bonus against fire. (Dragonhide with up to +7 DR – and unusual dragonhide that doubles its bonus vs. acid, cold, or other damage – exists but isn’t for sale.) It also gives ‑3 reactions from dragons! Weight and cost depend on DR bonus: +1 DR (+2 vs. fire) is 1.25¥ weight and +29 CF; +2 DR (+4 vs. fire) is 1.5¥ weight and +35 CF; +3 DR (+6 vs. fire) is 1.75¥ weight and +41 CF; and +4 DR (+8 vs. fire) is 2¥ weight and +47 CF.

Dwarven: Dwarves can forge DR 6-9 plate armor (note [3]) to be harder! This gives +1 DR without raising weight. +4 CF.

Elven: Elven mail uses the higher DR listed for the base armor against all damage – don’t reduce its DR vs. crushing attacks. Any mail: +3 CF.

Feathers:  Feathers can be woven into cloth armor, adds +1 DR versus light ranged weapons (ammo weight 1 lbs or less).  Counts as Ornate +1 (no further Ornate can be added).  Costs $2,000.

Fine*: Expertly fitted, with no waste material. Offers full DR at 3/4 of the usual weight. Only fits wearers whose height and weight match the original owner’s! Any armor: +9 CF.

Giant-Spider Silk: Improves light cloth armor (DR 1) to DR 2 without raising weight – and allows it to be worn under other armor (+2 DR) without -1 to DX for layering. +99 CF.

Highly Articulated:  Highly articulated armor is constructed with an extremely sophisticated set of overlapping layers or plates protecting joints and other vulnerable areas. Provides two-thirds rather than half DR against attacks to chinks in armor.  +19 CF.

Jazerant:  Mail sandwiched between two layers of padding and/or leather.  Holdout penalty is DR/3.  Add both mail and leather together to find base armor price, CF is the amount of Holdout penalty reduced.  All modifiers apply to this new Base Price.

Meteoric†: Resists magic as for the weapon modifier (p. 106). Any metal armor (note [2]): +19 CF.

Orichalcum*†: Gives full DR at just 1/3 of the usual weight! Any plate armor (note [3]): +29 CF.

Ornate‡: Dress to impress, exactly as for the weapon modifier (p. 106). Any armor or clothing: +1 to reactions for +1 CF, +2 for +4 CF, or +3 for +9 CF.

Slornhide (Leather of Quality):  Light and heavy leather armor can be made of Slorn hide, this leather is tougher than regular leather, +1 DR, for no extra weight.  Slorn are known to attack wearers of Slorn hide on sight and track those that escape them forever.  There are rumors of Slornhide armors made from old Slorn that have the same acid/fire resistance of the Slorn, if so see Dragonhide for pricing and weight increase.  +4 CF (+3 CF for Trolls).

Spiked: Every turn, roll DX-4 to stab each enemy in close combat with you as a free action; success deals 1d-2 impaling damage. In addition, anyone who strikes such armor with an unarmed attack takes this damage to the attacking body part – and if the attack is a bite, grapple, or anything under Slams, Tramples, and Overruns (Exploits, p. 40), the attacker suffers maximum damage (4 points). Any plate armor (note [3]) that covers the body or more: +2 CF.

Thieves’‡: Blackened mail woven for maximum flexibility, minimum noise. Find the total weight of your gear with and without this armor, and use weight without to figure encumbrance penalties (p. 12) to Acrobatics, Climbing, Stealth, and other skills (but not to Move or Dodge). Any mail: +3 CF.

* Weight effects multiply together; e.g., dragonhide with +4 DR (2¥ weight) of fine quality (3/4 weight), weighs 1.5 times as much as usual.

† Meteoric and orichalcum are mutually exclusive.

‡ Thieves’ mail cannot be ornate.

Spidersilk cloth armor has DR2 weighs the same as any cloth armor, and has A cost of +99, so 100x the base cost. The value is that it stacks without penalty.
Fighter types can take a 5 point armor mastery to stack freely and get DR+1.

Spidersilk clothing costs 100x normal clothes ($120) and gives DR1.
Haskel has an enchanted set that give him reaction -1 as they look like smelly rags.

Razael will go for Elven Light mail arms, legs, head and body,  30 Pounds and will sell the Gambeson with Jack Chains.
Cost is $3825 weight is 30 less the 11 pounds of the Gambeson and chains.

$7175 -  3825= $3350 left

Is it the weight or the cost that's holding you up from getting Lt Cloth GSS armor?

If it's weight, Fine GSS Lt Cloth weighs 13.5, costs $16,350.  Toss Lighten on there for $2,000 and it's a mere, svelt 10.25.

Sure, it's double the weight of GSS clothing, but the cost isn't that much more (GSS clothing is $12,000).

You could also toss Fortify on either for $1,000 for +1 DR.

And you might be able to talk gwythaint into Very Fine (aka Masterfully Tailored in LowTech) armor at CF +29 for -70% weight.

Very Fine Fortified Lt Cloth would be $5,500, weight 5.4 lbs, and be DR 2.  And it still be Lightened.

OK GURPS Magic says I can have the weight reduced by 50% for $500 ... that's a good deal!
Acceptable?

That would cost me $3825 +500 or $4325
My 30 Lb Elven Lt Chain armor now weighs 15 pounds. Add hand protection for another 0.6 Lbs and $50, so $4375 and 15.6 pounds.

DR 3 all over except boots are DR 2

Piecewise armor can have Deflect or Fortify that adds Defense Bonus or Damage Resistance only vs. attacks on that location, or Lighten for just the weight of that piece. Use 10% of cost for head, 35% for body, 15% for arms, 5% for hands, 25% for legs, or 10% for feet. Further halve cost for a breastplate or just one limb or extremity.
[2] Defense Bonus adds to that of any mundane shield. If both shield and armor have Deflect, only the highest magical DB applies. See Defense Bonus (Exploits, p. 47).

So... presuming we all made it back into town just fine (Jednesa wasn't stopped at the gate?) and we've sold our Loots* and commissioned our comissionables... are we all standing around outside the Guild like a glove full of sore thumbs looking for a hammer to strike?

Are we off to other threads (Back in town)?

I am not aware of any other missions except the mage guild one. I think I have Christine and Melchizedek not there, though right now Aoife, Clarence and Sederic are in the thread looking for the evil shop. Happy if anyone want to take Sederic there to avoid two characters in one thread...or I can keep doing it. GMs call. Don't really care if Mel wants to accompany Christine and Nessy either if that helps the GM...

Rice Run is the only thread I don't have a character in.

I'm not sure the entire group is in that thread ("Back in Town") though (and how they were to be introduced into it.  I only joined it because I saw Christine posting in it)... and we haven't finished figuring out the disposition of the "Library".

I'm fine with continuing the Library discussion OOC while our Characters head off to whichever threads they are heading to.  I'm just not sure which threads those are.

quote:

The wagons was the previous missions equipment, however we were given remit to claim it (along with any other equipment they had) if we found their remains.  I can't find the thread where they were given the wagon, so i'm not sure if it was Guild property or if they purchased it with their initial funding.

I'm fine with us just pulling it into the Guild and unloading and leaving it to the Guild to figure out what the hell is going on...  Stenet is too preoccupied with needing to deal with his new armor and Jednesa literally has no notion about anything.

The issue I am trying to solve in both of these (now) logistical/occ threads is who is going to be in what party. So far I have Dne/Masugatan, Aegis, and Reanna (Christine) planning on dealing with the mageguild,
And Jednesa could join them, while you, Christine or Melchizadek can regroup with anyone else looking to hunt evil. Personally, joining up with the folks on temple mount might work for you, although there is a dwarf holy warrior of Hades...Christine already has Hograth in that thread, although those two are fairly different.

Sure.  So to recap you have two "open" quests:  "Deal with the Evil Mageguild" and "Temple Hill"

Temple Hill seems to be ongoing and rapidly evolving so if you want some of us to slide into there, we'll need to do so soonish.  Hograth/Christine is already in there.

Mageguild already has Reanna/Christine.

Stenet is fine for either.  I'll take whichever you prefer (for ease of slotting into or where his talents as a Holy Slayer best compliment).

Jednessa will be fine sitting it out for a 'minute' with Christine while we wait for a new opening or to form a new group around the core of Wizard and Meathshield.

quote:
Personally, joining up with the folks on temple mount might work for you, although there is a dwarf holy warrior of Hades...Christine already has Hograth in that thread, although those two are fairly different.

Like I said, whichever is easier on you, I have no real preference as Stenet has not worked with anyone of them yet (and I haven't read those threads).

Stenet's only preference (which he'll state if the Guild asks) is to "avoid working with Christine or Jednessa again, unless the mission needs collateral damage as those two are... indiscriminate around the lootables".

quote:

That works for me.  I'd* be happy trading the lot of them for a 1 point Training Access (Aethelbert's Library) Perk (just as a suggestion).

Razael is fine with the 1 pointLibrary perk concept. He might do well in the Temple Hill thread except I already have a character in that thread.

I have a couple old characters that are currently not in play:
Syvanus would be one i would like to find a job for...

Azrael should be disposed of
Johan Stark could go or go to someone else

I agree Christine and Jednessa made a good pair. If someone wanted to take over Melchizedek or add another healer into the mix, they could go though one of the other portals on Temple hill. Though it seems that the mob with Aoife, Sederic and Clarence (yes, my three characters only) might be headed the same way. That is a lot of parties meeting up.

Also happy with the 1 point library perk, but do not have any points for now...

Thread is still CLOSED boss.  Also, thread is at 965 messages, so might want a new one, just to be safe.

Also, does this mean Jednesa is also 'Back in Town'?  She needs a roll and a 9 or less means she's denied entrance.  She has a healthy chunk of change that could be used for bribe money if necessary, just say the words...

Split 7 ways that's 342.85, that leaves 5 bits.

Stenet will agree to disperse the the $0.05 in whatever manner the highest ranking expedition member desires (that would be Haskell).

Re: Returned from the Abbey

Stenet Fjall:
Head to toe Giant Spider Silk jammies are $15k. GSS is CF x99, a suit of Cloth armor is $150.

A full suit, yes. But If I only go for the body now, it would cost just $53 x 100  $5300, and weigh 6.3 lbs. I can add bits on later...
Stenet Fjall:

Other modifiers you may have skipped;

So an Ornate Fine, Balanced Silvered Sylvan Dragonbone Jo with the staff spell, sw+3, th+3, no breaking, power factor or 10 for $1,420, 2 lbs

Plus silk underwear (what girl would say no!) for $5,300, and a pair of silk gloves ($500, same table as the link) Sounds like her shopping is done! All this ok to add to Character sheet, GM?

Also, can she sell her Fine Leather Armour (7.5 lbs) DR 2 worth $1580? How much would she get for it? I am assuming 40% ($632) that sound about right?
