Not sure that will work with ranged weapons, so Reanna is staying quiet to stay hidden...but again raises the suggestion in hushed tones to any near her of bypassing the threat, and letting them trigger the ambush of their quarry, and just adding to it to make sure none survive...

The sun is not at its zenith, and the bridge is North-south, so a shadow is cast to the side. The road approaching  is straight N/S also.

"There is no good place to ford the river with the pony, likely we are crossing here or going miles out of our way.  Perhaps diplomacy could be used instead of fight?  Though, if this ambusher impedes legal travel and commerce, maybe removing it would be a Greater Good?"

"I have never seen the toll taker, but often coin is thrown, or food. Typically a small sheep or a young goat or hog when a large party crosses with wagons. A silver a head may do, I have heard ill of those crossing without paying the toll. There is a bell there on the side, and a rod chained to strike it.

Something large shifts in the shadows, and a large hulking mass hunches out from unfer the bridge.
A terribly long arm reaches up as it pulls itself semi upright, and it pulls itself hand over hand on the chain.

Over nine feet tall and lean with unusually long arms, the warty, rubbery, green creature stares up at ypu with completely black eyes and grins through a slash of a mouth.

Reanna aims carefully at the creatures head while others discuss matters...

Aegis has an impulse to just fire his bow at the creature as soon as it becomes visible.  He holds the line, however.  Instead, he aims at the creature and keeps enough distance that he can get out his hand weapons, should it charge him.

Dilandua's feet slide on the road taking the warrior into a crouch, muscles bunch and relax, the spears are lowered, but held in a ready grip.

Dilandua looks around at teh assembled group, "No.  There are two options, we continue on and leave you alive to continue shaking down others; or you disagree and we build you a nice cheery bonfire as a going away present."

Well, I didn't expect it to work... after all Dilandua is not a massive hulking brute capable of physically intimidating others... no they have see the possible carnage first.  C'est la vie.

The hulking troll produces a medallion that appears to be chained through its wrist. You note that the chain it climbed is stapled through its ankle.

The medallion (about as big as a saucer) has the seal of the city of St.Remy and the Marquis of Carrabbas on the reverse.

"I am the official toll collector.  Once a month, they come for the coin. "

Aegis waits patiently for a decision to be made, continuing to aim at the troll.
