Re: Against the Mageguild

OOC:  I say we give Dne another day or two to post before we just take "whatever we find" using Reanna's skill.  Better if I do not risk the critical fail to roll against a 4, with my luck...

Dilandua:
OOC:  Tactics defaults to IQ-6.  Dilandua has a 4...  does anyone (like our crazy birdbrained wizard) beat that?

Dne’s IQ is 15, so his default tactics would be 9.  (And technically, he’s not a wizard, but an elementalist.)

OOC: I might have to purchase this skill some time.  Seems useful.

OOC:  It is, I actually forgot about taking it with this Character, because the Template I was building from didn't have it.

In reply to Reanna Draegan (msg # 571):

By virtue of his bird's eye view, Dne locates a spot concealed from the road that cannot be flanked due to a collection of boulders  where the party may conceal themselves.

Btw does anyone have thaumatology?

Dilandua gives the site teh once over to begin planning where best to put traps alongside teh road and how to setup a road blockage.

OOC:  Is this area wooded?  A sheltered rock outcropping on one side of the road will do little good if we can't stymie their escape.

"Guillaume, were there any camping spots, back say roughly half an hour's walk?  That's where we should camp, while we prep this site for business tomorrow."

OOC:  I forgot to bring it up in ST Remy, but did we ditch the halfling there?

Reanna Draegan:

OOC:  His contract was for 7 days.  Here and back again, but not to take part in the ambush.  In fact he probably doesn't even know there is an ambush planned.  Just "business", his job during the 'business transaction' is to keep the camp.

I mean, he's Guild... but Dilandua only trusts fellow Guildsmen so far.

Re: Against the Mageguild

Dne suggests it might be possible to bring a tree down across the road, without making it obvious it was placed there deliberately.  That way they might not realize an ambush is in progress until it’s too late.

"Yes, once we know they are on the way and others won't cross here, remove it, and stumble upon our preparations.  Ideally the area should look as undisturbed as possible once we've trapped the sides.  Then when I return after spotting them, we lay a tree across the road and finalize anything left."

Aegis takes a swig from his drink, although he was noticeably taking it easy with the booze.  He belches, and otherwise waits for the group to decide on what to do.

He does seem to be mumbling to himself, though it was not loud enough for the rest of the group to hear it.

In reply to Aegis (msg # 586):

"Perhaps it would be wise to only partially block the road against wagons. Even if they do not have wagons, it will slow them without looking like an ambush. But really, do we need to block the road at all? If they are mounted or on foot, they can likely go around anyway, and it will only alert them...better to set up defences they cannot easily see."

Re: Against the Mageguild

"A tree across the road isn't a defense, it's a hurdle.  It stops the mage's party from immediately fleeing and out running us.  It helps trap them in our killzone.  That's why I brought these," Dilandua takes the two shovels, pickaxe, and rope.  "We string ropes at knee and waist height where they won't be immediately obvious and dig shallow brush covered trenches everywhere else, to stop horses and men from fleeing off the road.  And either drop another tree or pull a rope across the road behind them when they're in the box to block immediate retreat back up the road.  Hopefully we can kill them fast enough no one escapes."

Dilandua points out places where trenches would be appropriate and where ropes would work better.  At least so Dilandua thinks...

"But you're right.  The moment they see the tree across the road they will know it's an ambush.  Maybe if we rig it to drop once we've sprung the ambush?"

OOC:  14:28, Today: Dilandua rolled 13 using 3d6.  Traps (Setting) 9.

Ehhh.... if someone has a Traps (Setting) [Traps based on IQ] better than a 9, please roll it...
