Ooc: I won’t start casting until our targets have already passed my position, and will make sure I’m at least several yards away from the rest of the party.  (Obviously, it will take a few seconds to expand to five yards, anyhow.)

several men on foot are visible at extreme range (-7) further up the road. they are wearing red gambesons, steel cuirrasses,  gauntlets and helms, and appear to have crossbows readied.

Reanna curses under her breath. Advance scouts. This was exactly what she was concerned about(see msg #600). Since no-one had believed they would be a problem, she comes up with a solution.

Unloading her crossbow so the bolt does not fall out (but holding it in her hand to aid with climbing), she climbs down from her tree to move back towards where she thinks the forward scouts are, trying to be stealthy. However, the obligatory critical fail will see her spotted, at which point she will try to run off at great speed away from the road, pausing to see if they follow her.

If they do, she will head for the deeper part of the forest, or climb a tree.

[Private to GM: Climbing down stealthily, rolled 6 under climbing, 2 under stealth. Stealth to move to a new position behind the forward scouts, rolled 18. Climbing to climb tree, rolled 8 under skill.]

Dilandua says nothing, holds position in hiding, continuing to concentrate on the ability to leap.

one of the redshirts calls out and fires a crossbow at Reanna, the bolt striking the tree behind her as she steps onto a really loud branch in direct sunlight

Not sure what she was thinking, she starts and looks up, ducking behind a tree, she braces and loads a bodkin bolt, and starts aiming at the nearest. How far are they?

Reanna will stay behind the tree she used to brace, with only her head visible for the anticipated response...if she has a chance, she will recock her crossbow!

If they are not pursuing, she recocks then reloads her crossbow. Can they even hear her? They are not responding to her words...

Reanna curses that the drunk did not keep his head. While the mages can expend their energy hunting one person, but this only works as long as the rest remain undetected. The stupid drunk risked ruining that...she hoped other would not be fools.

She prepared to make herself a hard target, using the tree as cover and being very acrobatic in defence. She also looks to plan an escape route, should it be needed, before continuing to taunt, screaming.

"Still planning on your banditry, huh? Is that your game? Walk along the road hunting innocents? Maybe some other honest folk will deal with you! Curse you bandits in the name of all the gods of travellers!"

[Private to GM: All out defense, increased defence (dodge), dodge 11, acrobatics 10 under roll, so acrobatics adds +2 to raise dodge to 13. Rolled 5 dodges, 4 under 11, one rolled 14. She is also making a LOT of use of cover, so only head visible.]

OOC:  Did the mages remain at -7 range, or did they move closer?

For now, Dne sticks to the plan, holding fire until the mages come.  But he fears things are going wrong.
