Last day has been rough for me too.  Either seasonal allergies or a regular case of the flu because my temp was 95 degrees this morning.  I feel your pain my friend.  Take it easy and get healthy.

I deleted the political comments I had typed.

Probably best we don't start that kind of discussion here, tempting as it is.

We have a broad spectrum of opinions there, I am quite certain, and while you and I might have some common ground, it isn't my business to make any assumptions there. I think it is a good idea to keep our game fairly neutral out of respect for one anotner, and also because Echelon does a lot of targeted word searches for specific phrases that could come up, and I'd rather not invoke their attention.

Re: Out of Character 9

I will add this, and apologies for the minor soap box...

In this day and age, it has been easier than ever to see our differences in opinion and action.  It has been much harder to find our common ground, and the things we all can agree on.

We're in something of a crisis right now.  In my opinion this should be one of those times that transcends politics.  No one in leadership will be faultless.  We can all probably agree on that.  However, focusing on that takes our attention away from the things we can do to help and support the people around us.

I have already lost one person I knew to COVID-19, although we were not close.  It will surely get worse for everyone before it gets better, as I'm sure the Narrator can tell us.  Let's care for the people that matter.  That's something we can control in the moment.

You're worried about 2-door sports cars?  Then definitely stay inside.  Far less occurrence of those indoors...  ;)

Yes comrades friends, let us avoid the use of targeted phraseology such as [FNORD] and [DOUBLE FNORD] and other such trigger codes.

:P

Honestly, I'm far less worried about covert government surveillance than I am the people at work who refuse to social distance.  I can't wait till we go work from home, sorry gwythaint, I know you're stuck at the hospital.  Impossible to do remote work of that nature.  Y'all are heroes.

2 door sports cars blowing the state?  Weird fetish, but whatever floats your boat... ;)

Where you at, that you're more worried about a violent overthrow of the government than getting pandemiced?  Thailand?

You're not in Idaho, so you don't have the absolute dumbest of the dumb*, but yeah, Michiana can get pretty "Yer can ha' me Rights† over me cold dead body".

But I don't see those counties going all civil insurrection over a lockdown.

* Bundy and the 'Liberty Rebellion' group.
† Usually meaning "guns and free speech", but I can see them getting huffy over the right to assembly.

I'm from the Michiana area myself, although I moved west in 2000.  Guessing you know the Griffin well.  I still have lots of family there, but don't get back much anymore.

I got family right across the lake in Chicago (Aurora).  So I don't 'know it well' but I hear stories.

Supposedly it's better than than the redneckery they get up to in southern Illinois...

Re: Out of Character 9

I grew up in North Idaho -- once knew a fellow who pulled a "drive-by shooting" on an empty Mormon church.  Fired two rounds of .22 at the massive wooden front doors.  Some sort of signal to tell 'em to stay out of town (seemed a little late, the church construction was complete and services were scheduled for the next Sunday).

He was a trained anthropology field worker who later got hired doing living history work at the local university.

My conclusion is and was that even the smart folks can be pretty dumb, and I generalize that (which is to say, I don't think Idaho is in any way unique).

That said, I never spent any time around Rathdrum, the reputed core of the stupidity.  Drove through once, in daylight, on my way to Henley Aerodrome in Athol to see WWI vintage aircraft fly.  Legend was, driving near Rathdrum at night was a Very Bad Idea, as you might wind up as the guest of honor at a sacrifice by the local devil worshippers...

I live in Washington Heights in upper Manhattan in New York, in the middle of a Dominican neighbo, accross the street from a homeless shelter. There are several different flavors of stupid in the area, (mine included) and a veritable potpourri of idiocy in the city as a whole. The place is a helluva lot less violent than it was thirty years ago when I moved to this neighborhood,  and I am quite comfortable being an unarmed citizen here.

there's alot of thug mentality around here, but if you see it coming a (make a streetwise roll) you can avoid being involved in most trouble. there's alot of armed rural folk, both crazy and clear-eyed.

Re: Out of Character 9

Yes, out here in Arizona most rural folks are armed in various ways, so it's wise to approach openly.  The city types are more like folks back east, so weapons are more like a 50-50 chance.
That said, the rural folks are experienced more often that not, the city sorts have a better chance of being daft.
