Re: Out of Character 9

Getting Staff spell on a bow should be simple enough -- it's once-living material (wood, sinew, maybe a little bone), and isn't even an edge case like my whip (that wouldn't work if it were longer than it is, I'm told).

Seems to me there was "Battlebow" or something of the sort -- I do recall something about a bow that was reinforced to be used as a quarterstaff (presumably when unstrung).  Powerups?  Maybe?

Christine Bjorn:
For those who know the books backwards, was there a bow modification somewhere that allowed a bow to be used as a staff in Melee combat?

DF 11 Power-Ups, Bow Fencer [10 points] you may treat your bow as a baton in melee combat, Reach 1.  Beware Parry with it however as it is still only as heavy as a bow.

I think the Staff spell is a much better choice, stronger, better parry skills and doesn't risk losing your missile weapon to breaking.

I don't think that spell does what you think it does... and it certainly doesn't do what Christine was asking about.

i like polearms. i've been thinking of a wizard that uses one, instead of a staff, with staff spell placed on it.

Re: Out of Character 9

I recall a limitation of no more than 2 yard length for Staff spell items, as well.

I read Christine as being interested in a bow with Staff, for an archer-mage, and having Bow Fencing would gain an additional bit of versatility.  Though I also recall an advantage that lets you shoot without penalty even in melee, so you don't have to switch weapons if the enemy closes.  Not Weapon Master or Heroic Archer, just checked those.

you could do a mean crossbar, and there's techniques to strike with the shaft, as well as the sword technique to wield staves. you could hit them in combat and magetouch the crap-ola outta them, along with a nasty crushing blow. i might make me a sahudese magi-martial artist, in this style.

The staff spell cast on the bow should allow the bow to be used to extend reach with spells, but the bow would still be vulnerable in melee combat. I guess just carrying a Jo could resolve that.

That is a small part of Heroic Archer; shooting in melee without taking Bulk Penalties.  There are no other Advantages that do this, though there is a Technique.

Or you take Bow Fencer as I posted above which allows you to parry with the bow.  It also increases the Bow's DR from 2 to 6 for melee and parrying, though again, you still have to worry about parrying weight.  However making it a Fine, Sylvan bow would help to mitigate that.

And no for soemthing less funny...

Any particular reason?  I admit, I don't like abilities that aren't 'supernatural' in nature changing the properties of physical objects, though it could be a Chi thing with Bow Fencer... and I semi agree on the dislike of Bow Harps.  It has never set well with me despite the fact that I know someone who plays a mean recurve.

Didn't realize she had create food or remove curse. The point was she was cursed, and her savior is Christine.  That was how the intro would work, and the need for food was the reason it was a curse. Perhaps being utterly alone and chummy lowered the skills until she failed too bbn often, or she had a crit fail on remove curse.

Or had forgetfulness cast on her, perhaps due to an item that she forget she was wearing. Christine has Dispel Magic, but not Remove Curse...

Do like the general idea though!

use the partial coverage chart, for custom armor. add up weight and cost for light leather, covering the thighs, to the knees. then, you'll find the total cost and weight.

The Low Tech Custom coverage chart says that armour covering thighs and knees is half the weight and cost of torso armour. So using the chart for armour given, that would be 3.15 lbs and $26.50. I wanted to confirm this and not just assume it though.

Dragonbone is also notably absent from the charts as well, but I believe it is identical to Orichalcum but +24 CF. This is all correct?

Dispel magic would work, as it is not a curse but a critical success on a spell of Insignificance.

Insignificance is resisted by Perception not Will... so it's possible some people might have had an easier (or harder) time resisting it... (Jednesa is unaffected, her Will and Per are equal).
