Agreed.  As was written (well before I was born): "I disapprove of what you say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it."  (Helen Beatrice Hall, writing as Stephen G. Tallentyre, an in-character quote misattributed to Voltaire)

I agree.  That said, some damn stupid things are being said these days.  It’s as though we’ve given up on any effort to agree on a shared set of facts and have all just decided to believe whatever bologna we want... and it’s always the bologna that puts us in the right and frames the other side as the spawn of hell.

Having said that, I’ll pass on any further political discussion, which can only wreck the game for me by producing bad blood.

I fired up the 2016 XCOM 2 on my new computer build and may have been distracted for much of the weekend.  But, most of the earth is now in full rebellion against those awful aliens.  I feel much better now.

Re: Out of Character 9

I've been playing a Steam game called Quern -- very much in the spirit of Myst with modern graphics (free roaming, real-time rendered).  Originally made for VR, which explains some of its mildly annoying quirks (mouse-look is the ONLY look -- but at least you can lock it while you manipulate objects).

Unfortunately, it has less of the "this makes perfect sense in-world" and more of "this is a puzzle just to be a puzzle" -- for instance, why would everything have a puzzle lock, as opposed to just stuff you need to keep people out of?

Okay, in fairness, I'm only a little way into the game (because did I mention that everything has a puzzle lock?), there may be a good, internally consistent reason for that.  Sure does keep a first time player from just blasting through the game, though.  Especially since a couple of the puzzles have hard-to-spot in-game cues.

Also, because VR, it requires me to play with graphics quality turned down and game in a window, because my computer (mainly graphics card) is a little underpowered.  I have AMD FX 8350, 8 cores/8 threads at 4.1 GHz and 16 GB RAM, but my video is only a GTx 750, now about three years old and not top of the line when I got it.  Might be getting time to spend $200 on a video upgrade, not to mention consider adding a PCIe direct SSD (my /home is getting full).

Wait... is everyone assuming that Rosewood is a female pixie? Their gender expression is not something I am sure of, but I am sure appropriate  pronouns matter to them.

Umm.  Ulo?  A cubic yard is 27 cubic feet -- 3x3x3.  So a 10 foot deep, 3 foot square pit would be just 3 1/3 cubic yards, while the larger 10x5x5 is slightly less than 10 (actually about 9 1/4).

I'll admit... that set of maths is not my strong suit.  So, my initial eyeballing it at 10 cubic yards was right, and not under?  Huh.  Okay  I'll take your word for it (I couldn't find a cubic yard calculator, it was all cubic feet online).

Re: Out of Character 9

As one who worked concrete one summer as a teen (never mind it was 45 years ago), a cubic yard is a pretty big chunk.  About 3/4 of a ton if it's water, soil probably above a ton.  That pit critter just got ten tons of dirt in its (presumed) mouth...

And Ulo has every right to be exhausted...

So 4 cubic yards or rock around the creatures head is how much weight?

Re: Out of Character 9

Typical rock, similar to cured concrete, ought to mass something like three tons per cubic yard, as a minimum.  Some rocks are denser than this.

Re: Out of Character 9

I don't think weight is going to be much concern unless there is an empty or unsupported space beneath the tunnel that the creature is "overlapping".  Even then, if it works like I (the Player) suspect it does, that won't come into play until/if it dies...

Of course, if Ülo can pull off her next hat trick*, Earth to Stone, it might matter† an awful lot.

* Which would be easier if she'd rolled a 5 and gotten the spell for free.  Now she'll be rolling with Shock Penalties as she spend Hit Points to power the spell...

†  Eh, eh?  Matter?  Get it...

I'll see myself out.

She might not be that low, considering she only had to create 3 cubic yards of earth.

I am on vacation the next two weeks. The first week, I am pounding away at commissions, and will do some posting. Also hoping to get in a zoom game or two.
The second week, I will be traveling  (many short day trips) with my wife, and may be away from game for the entirety.

Lol, typical! I will be around the next two weeks, then likely away the next three! But as always, will post when I can.

I was actually thinking of the creature with about 12+ tons of rock about it's head...how else can you kill something with massive DR are rapid regeneration? But if he has a 12 5t flail for a head...we want to stay well away from that!

Edit: Google check indicates that weight would be between 5 and 10 US tons for 4 cubic yards. Still...the nerd within me has to ask, for extra heavy encumbrance to lift 5 tons,

Spoiler text: (Highlight or hover over the text to view)
5 t = 10000 lbs = 10 x BL, BL = 1000 lbs = (ST x ST) /5, ST = sqrt(5000) = 70.7!
that would require a creature of ST 70! And it breathes fire! Scary stuff indeed!

I think Trading with trolls is the only one I am absent from...perhaps need to see if Aoife/Sederic or Hograth/Melchizadek want to split and join them. Hograth and Aoife probably not though. Seems like a suitable job for Sederic or Melchizadek though.
