And if you don't have the time, the energy, or the inclination to delve deeply into matters, all you can do is wait for the outcome.

I figure they'll have a decision by January, right or wrong, and we either will or won't have a peaceful transition of power.

Depending on your definition of "peaceful", I'm sure we'll have a peaceful transition of government.  My definition does not include the endless court trials over ballot recounts*, just that one side will concede to the other once the "last ballot" has been finally counted.  I'm also not speaking about the asphodels who will riot over the vote not going their way.

But for everyone worried about civil war?  Go ahead and stock up, but there won't be a civil war.  Protests, demonstrations, a few riots, maybe even a McVieghing, but no civil war.

* Frex, Florida famously taking like 6 years to finally decide we'd officially counted every ballot that could be counted by law and had voted for George W Bush.

[EDIT]
Man that misspelling is weird, asphodels=assholes.

Re: Out of Character 9

I would be so much more comfortable if some did not feel the need to carry their little armory with them in "peaceful" demonstrations... I expect having such folks standing around inside the counting areas while votes are counted would be considered intimidation.
I take a gun when I go out, but I keep it concealed, as does my wife ... we happily have not felt any need to draw them although some irate customer 's ranting and threats at a circle K came close to tipping that comfort level over something not related to the election.

Asphodel is the name of the part of Hades where the indifferent and ordinary souls would go; it is also the name of the flowers that grow in Elysium, where the good souls go.... the rest go to Tartarus for judgement. Interesting... I would have thought the fine peopke you accidentally called by that name would wind up in the third place.

I had a permit and carried daily the last several years I lived in Seattle.  I haven't felt the need to get a local one since moving to North Carolina -- not because NC is inherently any safer, but because I haven't lived in a population-dense setting here.

That said, DO NOT break into my house.

Oh, yeah. Kirpich was so exhausted he missed that one. Perhaps now he looks around he will notice the bleeding comrade...what happened to the player? Would restoration regrow the limb? Also, what healing should be applied in the meantime?

Well, if the diagnosis comes back he is dead, we would need to do a groups thing to resurrect him. Kirpich does know the spell, but at 300 fp...how could it be cast?

It's not.  Not by PCs anyway.  That's why DFRPG took it off the spell lists.

DFRPG is Basic + DF 1 and 2 + Magic with a whole bunch of things removed.  Mostly to make it simpler, but in the case of truncating of Magic, to remove spells that Kromm (Sean Punch) deemed unnecessary*, imbalancing†, or that go against the spirit of the game‡.

* When is the last time a PC had the capacity to cast Resurrection?
† All Create spells being limited to 24 hour durations (basically).
‡ The entire Enchantment college.  PCs need to be adventuring for cash, not sitting in their guild enchanting equipment...

Re: Out of Character 9

In reply to Jareth Mooncalled (msg # 833):

Well, actually, high level clerics could in AD&D, and often got scrolls to do that. So that is not actually out of the ballpark. I don't recall much about later versions of DnD, but I stopped playing after 3.5 for a reason...

Of course, Raise Dead and Reincarnation were the more common cheap little brothers, but with the fp cost, Raise dead is more similar to GURPs resurrection in that it was a big undertaking that took a lot of recovery time following the spell being cast, making it not really ca combat spell.  DnD Resurrection could be cast i combat, and often was for those lucky enough to get that high in level. At 300fp, that is pretty much never going to happen in GURPs, though...not without some serious legendary item! I suspect that is why Kromm left resurrection on the spell lists for clerics...it is still a significant undertaking, and lets face it, Dungeons are dangerous places for characters. Removal of this spell removes a significant incentive for clerics to try to gather energy reserves followers, something very much in line for clerics to do!

The other changes I am aware of.

I suspect you noticed you're not playing D&D.  When was the last time in GURPS that a PC had the 300 FP layin about to pop off a Resurrection?

It's very, very, very rare in GURPS.  It requires special setups, like ritual casting with a massive crowd of worshipers, or having an 'artifact' level Powerstone (which takes almost a year to recharge), or the use of lots of very costly 'mana enhancing ingredients'... sure there's always Rezz potions for 25k$ a pop (which is 10k$ more than the cost of a Resurrection in DFRPG, but to be fair, it's Rezz in a bottle)...

Yeah, but see, that is kind of the point. They should be able to learn the spell, but even if they do, you still need about 20-30 of them to cast the spell. if they can't learn it, then there is not point networking, one of the hallmarks of a cleric, so they may as well just buy the spell like anyone else. Removing one of the key niche values of a high level cleric...and DF is all about niche protection.

a chamber in a high mana area, would help. if such places existed in Northport, they would probably be frowned on, by the Hadereum.
