Welcome to the Adventurers Guild.
Hearing the word 'work' reminded Jendrich of something important. Checking his coin pouch, he winced at how light it is. "Well, that's one way to start..."

He joins the hooded man at Aemon's side. "About work... I could use use a job as well. Is there anything a new recruit could help with?"

Welcome to the Adventurers Guild.
"Thank you, sir." Jendrich had no idea what the difference would be between Oren or Madelin, but the other adventurer seemed to know the place. If anything, following the man should lead him in the right direction.

Welcome to the Adventurers Guild.
Grimaldi headed on to Oren, without looking over his shoulder, though he heard the man following him.
"Coming to see Oren, with me? The name's Grimaldi. Swordsman and Wizard."

Welcome to the Adventurers Guild.
"Hm? Oh, I'm Jendrich. I... was a guard. In my home town." He seems hesitant, looking off to the sides as he answers. "I couldn't leave with much, so any task Oren could offer would help..."

Welcome to the Adventurers Guild.
Jendrich gives a heavy sigh. "Heavenvale was founded by Triunist who believed all forms of magic were the work of demons. Anytime something strange would happen, we'd blame imps or gremlins. Except it wasn't.

We rarely had visitors. Maybe one a year, and that's one too many for most townspeople. When we had one, I'd be charged with escorting them away. Until master Allist stumbled into our town. Before I lead him away, he noticed one of those events, a wagon wheel jumping off it's axle. While we started praying, he pointed out the real source."
His voice lowers, almost to a whisper. "He said that I'm a sorcerer. That because I wasn't trained, my powers were acting on their own, causing the town's trouble."

The former guards takes a moment to gather himself before continuing. "That... meant I was no longer welcomed in Heavenvale. So, I left with master Allist, and began learning how to keep my abilities under control. Only, he said the priest's teachings were slowing my progress. He sent me here in hope that I'd learn more about the world, and find a better way to progress."

Welcome to the Adventurers Guild.
In reply to Jendrich (msg # 11):

on the second floor, which has a balcony surrounding the main hall below, you find, amid the assorted stalls of services and goods, a set of conference rooms.
The smaller of the conference rooms is open, and inside is a rough table for six. At the head of the table is a man in  brown and cream livery, with a young Valdassyian in similar garb sitting beside him. between them a number of maps and scrolls are spread out on the table.

Welcome to the Adventurers Guild.
"Shapes just glimpsed from the corner of the eye, weird giggles out of thin air... I don't know for sure, to be honest. Master Allist said that my powers may draw the attention of curious beings, but it may be just my imagination."

Letting Grimaldi enter first to confirm their destination, Jendrich gives a military salute to the man at the table. "I was told to report here for work assignment?"

Welcome to the Adventurers Guild.
"I've served as my home town's guard for years. I'm well trained in swordsmanship, and with polearms. Jendrich pauses, trying to find what else he had achieved, only to come almost painfully short. "I haven't done much else then getting drunks back home, or finding petty thieves."

In reply to Grimaldi (msg # 18):

"The merchant Rushagorn Brokadin, who has a contract with the trollfolk of the eastern depths is going on a delivery run. He has a few orcs with him, and a former deepguard halberdier, but no spellcasters. The trollfolk aren't the issue, he wants to explore west of them, and establish a route at that depth with other undercity encampments.  He thonks there is a connection to the Ropemaker's guild, as they built their tower deep, and there may be others."

Welcome to the Adventurers Guild.
Jendrich nods. He has no idea what an undercity would be like, and only barely heard about trollfolk, but guard work is guard work, no matter where it takes place. "Sounds perfect. Where should I meet sir Brokadin?"

In reply to Jendrich (msg # 20):

"There is one qualifier, you will be teavelling with orcs and trollfolk. Are you prepared for that? Raffik the burnt is a lot to handle, but he is one of Rushagorn's chosen guides to the Undercity. He brings a healer with him, so there is that. I am still recruiting for this expedition,  so it may be a day or so before he is ready."

"Syvanus, how are you? This is an escort and exploration  mission. You will be traveling with two trollfolk, a memner of the deepguard, Brokadin, and some of his staff. The contract pays the going rate, a share of found treasure, and sale of any trade goods you bring at the Comfortable rate of sale, along with the possibility of bonii, including one for taking no loss of life."

Welcome to the Adventurers Guild.
In reply to Oren (msg # 25):

Trade goods means, in this case, that you can buy things like cloth, wood and leather items, fruit, vegetables,  or herbsor live animals like pigs to sell to folks who, living underground,  have no access to them. The merchant se)s the goods at the wealthy rate, and you get an increase, which is at the comfortable rate, beating your own average return.
These items might get sold for coin or barter, and many of the things from below have a collector's market.

Anything brought as a gift rather than for sale can get you a more favorable reaction from the locals.

Not trying to run GURPS:Economics, just giving you an idea of what is up.
Normally, average sales net you only 40% of value, comfortable 60% and wealthy 80%. Goods considered rare below ground are considered to be worth one step more than they are- cheap goods (40% cost) have good prices(100%), good items (100% cost) are considered fine (400% cost), and fine items (400% cost) are considered very fine (2000%) anything ornate will be worth 200% of base value.

Trade with have nots can be very lucrative. Selling at fair rates may bring the emnity of the Merchant's guild, but give a very positive reaction from those involved in the exchange.
