"Yeah, I know the guy. Hurt his leg playing sports, good with a crossbow. "

As you roll through the drawbridge/gate, you can see a goggled fellow working skwith several kobolds installing a ramp near a framed out opening in the wall om one side of the corridor.

While the caravan's member finish their preparations, Jendrich double checks his crossbow. He assumes it won't be the best weapon underground, but it may help if he gets caught on the wrong side of the battlefield.

The artificer motions to a ramp leading up to a reinforced opening in the wall. within, you can hear a clanging sound as the kobolds work the crank on winch pullinga chain that runs out of another hole in the wall.

Grimaldi smiled, as he considered the possibilities for profit in excursions like these.
He would pay attention, learn what he could.

14:23, Today: Grimaldi rolled 10 using 3d6.  Loner (12 or less).
Grimaldi was amicable, and conversational. He was also curious, but he wasn't going to roll to resist that..
"So, Jendrich. Tell us more about where you're from. Was there some sort of troubles there?"

Jendrich gives a pained expression before answering. "There weren't... well, I didn't think we had problems. Looking back on it now, it's hard for me to say. Our faith was at the center of everything, and we saw everything through the words of our scripture. And that word was 'the world is evil, and we're the last godly people there are'.
Anyone that didn't fit into the priest's divine plan had no place in Heavenvale. I'm lucky master Allist was able to find a place for me in the Guild."

In reply to Grimaldi (msg # 33):

The artificer reaches in to the wall, and pulls forward a cable, and
A clang occurs as the platform of his descending basket locks with the ramp. The orcs start loading, and several barrels along with the deepguard are sent down.
In all, it takes 4 trips to load you down into the dark.

The descent takes several minutes, and the platform twists a little as it descends.

"Truly. But it's not something you notice when you live it. It's only when you have something to compare it to that you notice the limits."

While talking, Jendrich kept his attention on their surroundings. An elevator like this one, where their group could be separated for minutes on end, was an excellent choke point to launch an attack. Whoever maintained this lift should have setup a forward base to insure the user's safety, but guards aren't payed to be protected by others.

In reply to Grimaldi (msg # 38):

You find yourself at the base of the airwell in a large domed room. There are you two, Darg the deepguard,  Rush the merchant, Clair the porter, Murgash and Hravetta the orc warriors,  Radik the troll, and ourside of your circle of candlelight are perhaps a dozen trollish shapes.

With such a caravan, Grimaldi felt like rather a small army, as they made their way.

Looking at how the caravan spread, Jendrich realized that for all his desire to see attackers before they reached the group, the omnipresent darkness would make that impossible. As it seems the trolls have no such hindrance, he would have to rely on them to raise the alarm.

With that in mind, he sought the best spot to react quickly to any alert.

A shadow from the rear of the trolls moves forward resolving itself to be a small troll woman, dressed in leathers.  As she approaches the caravan she says something in Trollish to Rafik, "Kes vastutab" he just points to Rushagorn.

She walks over to Rush and extends her hand, saying "Ülo, warren guide" with a thick accent.

[Private to GM: What she said to Rafik is "Who's in charge?"]

Jendrich nods. Now that he knew who the caravan's guide was, he would know to keep an eye out for her silhouette while he walked. She would be the first to know if something was wrong, and a change in behavior would show her worry. Not the most obvious of signal, but in a new situation like this one, Jendrich would take anything helpful he could find.
