Re: Junior House Again

"Um, Jareth?  I don't speak Elvish, or Valdassyan, or whatever that was -- try again in Aralaise?  Even Shevnian, if you must; I could use the practice."

Presuming he didn't find any traps and Jareth didn't mention anything he missed, Mario pulls out a small bundle of small tools, and sets to work defeating the lock.

[Private to GM: 08:12, Today: Mario Crowfoot rolled 9 using 3d6.  Lockpicking (11).]

Nodwin opens his eyes, wondering how long he'd been out asleep.  Hearing Jareth ramble on about something really odd like the morphology of jelly was enough to put anyone to sleep...

In reply to Mario Crowfoot (msg # 380):

The door at the bottom of the steps, that previously  had runes was unlocked and held by a doorstop, which the jelly dissolved.  And then pushed the gate open, before retreating on fire.  That gate was open. If you were back down and accross the corridor, you opened the lick on tbe windy room's gate.

OOC: That's the gate I thought I was opening.

Mario straightens and slips the tools into his pouch and picks up his bow (which he had leaned against the gate's bars).

Jareth shakes his head and snaps out of the revere of describing conjugation and verb-adverb structural differences of a language that doesn't exist, "Not very.  Is vent tunnel.  No one ken where down to it go.  Well, someone might.  Lotta speculation."

Jareth pokes his head in the room (but doesn't step in) and looks around.

Re: Junior House Again

In reply to Clarence Montague (msg # 388):

Mario has unlocked the triangular room (two walls are mostly iron bars -stone up to about half a yard, and bars the rest of the way up).
within is a triangular pillar with a pyramidal lid, from under which comes a strong steady breeze.  The pyramid is hinged along one side, and a padlock hangs from the pointy end opposite it.

"You said it wasn't well known what's down these ventilation shafts.  Apparently, they're made to be maintained -- or used for something other than ventilation.  Want to take a look?"  Mario looks around.  "Oh, but Brodak might not fit down there."

OOC: What's the approximate size of the pillar?

Jareth stares at the pyramid top for a long moment and seems about to break away when instead, "Excellent idea.  Fy rope, Brodak as anchor, lower few down see what's t'ere."

OOC: 22:22, Today: Jareth Mooncalled rolled 15 using 3d6.  Obsession:  Undercity Self-Control 12.

This >< close to sticking to the plan...

The shaft is very narrow, maybe about two feet on a side, depending on how thick the chimney is. You still need to open the lock to see into it.

Re: Junior House Again

Up close, it's clear that if the shaft's walls are even as thick as single-laid brick, Brodak isn't going to fit, but Mario most likely will.

With a glance around the group, literally sizing up the others, Mario steps up to the shaft and looks it over for hazards, intentional (traps) or otherwise.

Re: Junior House Again

While Mario looks it over Jareth also gives it a very brief inspection.

"Should lower a rope an send Akimbo first.  Sniff out trouble an no danger gettin stuck."

OOC:  17:04, Today: Jareth Mooncalled rolled 10 using 3d6.  Trap (Spotting) 15.

So it's between 2 1/2 to 2 2/3 feet on the diagonal.  At 6 foot 140 pounds Jareth would find it a rather tight squeeze... but he's up for it if we don't have any one other than him and Mario.  But his escape Artist roll is a 6, so let's hope he doesn't get stuck...

In reply to Mario Crowfoot (msg # 396):

There appear to be no traps, only the padlock. The lower edge of the cover, which has covered horizontal vents, is made of a small geating, allowing the passage of air, but not normal sized rats or ferrets. A steadyflapping or slapping sound accompanied by a steady whirring  can be heard from below.

Mario has no issue oprning the lock. Lifting the cover reveals the shaft, quite narrow for anyone human sized, and the whirring and flapping sound is louder.

Lefty approaches the pillar and looks at it, and back at Clarence. Lefty has a body that is about a foot accross, but their legs extend until it is about 5 feet long.

(Picture Alaskan king crab for size) it is a bit too narrow for them to traverse.
