In reply to Clarence Montague (msg # 479):

Barely. The staff of the pole lantern is 4 feet long, by cross tucking it on a steep diagonal between the pack and back, it should just have clearance.

Picture it a foot above one shoulder and a foot anor so from the opposite hip.

Given the likelihood of the ceiling getting lower at the wrong spot, any reason the lantern hook on the shield cannot be used? With torch in the other hand, of course...

In reply to Narrator (msg # 482):

Lantern on the Lantern hook on the shield. Pole, well, wherever it fits. Do I have a pole? There is not one on my sheet? For that matter, the lantern is part of the flail, so presumably the handle would be draped over the top of the shield uncomfortably in order to hold the torch...unless another wants to hold the torch?

That lantern is part of the flail. The shield has a continual light stone in its pocket already.

The basic idea of a lantern shield is not good; one good hit and you are covered with flaming oil. I do not like them or any of thse shield variants.

OOC:  "Lantern helms" are uniquely funny when smashed.  I mean, funny for everyone but the person who was wearing it.

Re: Junior House Again

In reply to Jareth Mooncalled (msg # 485):

I was working with the idea the continual light was cast by me on the wick of the lantern, which is not lit. If you are working on the idea that the continual light is cast on a stone in the shield, the the unlit lantern may as well be stowed in the backpack, and the torch carried. Even easier. I am pretty sure he uses continual light for his head lantern as well...

Mario also pauses, now on the north side of the intersection, while Jareth's pencil scratches.

Without a word, Mario continues northward from the intersection, once more watching floor, walls, and ceiling for anything that looks "off".

In reply to Mario Crowfoot (msg # 493):

There are signs of some damage and repair here; a small hole (less than an inch accross and perfectly round, except for cracks around it, and some chipping at about shoulder height...the missing bits give you the impression that the hole was not made on this side.
A bronze plate about a foot accross is bolted to the floor diagonally accross from the small hole.

Mario, largely oblivious to "mana", holds his light stone close to the unpatched hole and tries to see if it originates just behind the wall facing, or if it penetrates from further away.
