Re: Tavern part 2

Aldous's posture shifts subtly, from suppressed seething to attentive concentration.  He tilts his head a little, then pushes back from the grate.

"Sven!  Som'n movin' out here!"  His whisper none the less carries well enough to be heard by those nearby.

He starts to raise his left hand, then looks around sharply, his gaze landing on his lantern, still standing by the door where he'd been trying to pick the lock.  His eyes go wide before he pats the pouch he stowed his picks in, then draws one of his smaller knives and flips it to a throwing grip.

He looks at the others, wondering what they are thinking, given the grates for the door, he brings his spear over where he can shove it through the grate if need be.

In reply to Thorg (msg # 361):

Aine goes to the lock with her bright staff (it has continual light cast on it) and tries her tricks. Though tiring, the lock seems to open...before she hears the noise. She then creates an Sphere of ice.

Aine unlocks the door, and stands on the step with her iceball, well away from the gate the others are gathering round.

There is something coming, possibly a human dragging its feet.

Aldous steps to the side, to leave room for Thorg and his spear, then backs up enough to get a clear throw through the bars.

Something manshaped and skeletal stumbles toward the gate.

Aine cannot open the door herself, as the handle is well out of reach.

Unable to open the door and with a target near, Aine moves to where she can throw her sphere without any risk of hitting the bars. Perhaps moving between the feet of the larger folk...

Presuming the grate into the corridor is locked, is there time to attempt picking the lock before the Dead Thing arrives?

Why don't we just leave it out there and deal with it through the grate where it is less of a threat...

"Yeah, besides, we don't know what kind it could be...Pa doesn't know anything about undead. Ma would know. We could have her take a look, when it gets to the bars...Then, we'd know what we were dealing with, and how to destroy it. I'm no expert, but undead just look dead..There's different kinds, with different powers, is all I know."

The stringy corpse approaches and claws at the gate, a baleful fire burning in its eye sockets.

Firing an iceball through the bars is at -4 to hit, less so if sticking your hand or staff through the bars.

Sparky moves a bit closer and casts, then sticks his flame jet through the bars at the skeleton and moves it to cut/burn it.

"Tha' don' look like th'other uns."

Aldous lifts his knife, and raises his empty left hand, then glances sharply to where he left his lantern by the door Aine unlocked.  He lowers his knife hand, and begins sidling back toward where he left the light.

Flames from Sparky's spell wash oer it, engulfing it and setting the rags of its garments ablaze. Aine could extend her jo through the bars to cast, but would be in striking range.

As Adolus gets to his lantern (only the corridor is dark, the room is very bright)
He hears a scuffing sound from within the unlicked door.
