Re: Tavern part 2

In reply to Hetilda Yurick (msg # 455):

Occultism tells you that it is undead, and that holy things might harm it, but that normal weapons might not help.

The small room has a smashed set M of shelves with lots of broken glass, and a rusted iron box.

"'Course I do."  Aldous moves his light around the rusty box as he examines it for unpleasant surprises.

[Private to GM: 17:46, Today: Aldous Hack rolled 16 using 3d6.  Traps (12) checking rusty box.  Bad, but not a crit.]

"Normal weapons won't do much good, allowing it to drive past them, and get into close combat with us, which will spell our doom. Fire and magic hurt it some, but we need to figure out which faith he subscribed to, so he can be rebuked and sent back to bed, properly. Now..we only need to figure out what "no soy nadie" means, and we've probably found our clue, as to what that faith might be..."

Hettie remains ominously silent, a slightly concerned look on her face, that softens slightly as her eyes rest on the strongbox. She wrings her hands in anticipation and avarice.

"Sure I do..It's not Shevnian, or Aralaise. It might not even be a name, but I could probably narrow it down, and find someone who can identify the phrase, and where it comes from. Then, we'll have an idea of what local clerics can help us get what we'll need to chase it off, and destroy it!"

"Soy's a kinda bean, fat, ugly 'n green."  Aldous looks up from the rusty box.

"Nothin'.  Lemme see c'n I ope nit."  He pulls out his tools again (one of them still glowing like a candle flame) and sets to work on the lock, working slowly and carefully.

[Private to GM: 18:39, Today: Aldous Hack rolled 9 using 3d6.  Lockpicking (11 +1 for extra time +1 for lit pick = 13).]

"We've got Rat man's boon of 93 silver coins, ($1860)
and this strongbox, to divvy up! We'll go to the merchant's quarter, where the foreign traders set up their pavilions. There, we can find out what we need, and prepare ourselves!"

Re: Tavern part 2

Maybe we all contribute to a thing to take out the wight and then keep some for our own needs? Say $200 apiece for a holy device and we keep $364?  That provides $1404 for a weapon or holy device.

Aldous's eyes get big.

"Tha's 'nuff t' buy a sword!"  He drops into a fencing stance, holding his knife in prime and his lantern high, behind his head.

Then his face drops.  "Ain't 'nuff t' git'er silvert, tho."
