In reply to Farm worker (msg # 219):

"That is some problem, but is the son any better? He was younger, I assume?

Does that have any relation to the creatures in this nearby castle?

Balir was concerned about the possibility of the woman being a vampyre.  As she is not, he offers his opinion.  "She can recover the farm, although we could perhaps try to provision her so she has a start.  Then we should return to tell Northport of our glorious deeds.  We have spoils to return, and ale to drink.  The vampyr are trapped in their castle, and will not be a threat if we leave.  We can come back for them, and the baron."

He pauses, then adds

"They are more likely to have great wealth than the beast...did anyone check it's stomach, by the way?"

Balir responds "No, I don't think anyone looked at the inside of this thing.  I will open it up so you can.

While we are examining it's insides, perhaps we can provide some meat to the farm.  They will need help to get back up and running.  A few days of food would be very valuable to them.  Does anyone know how to treat or smoke animal meat to preserve it?  The inhabitants of the farm, especially the children, could use it.

With regard to the Vampyre, I do understand your point, Kirpich.  From my perspective, we have to carry the spoils from the beast.  It's scales will stink if not properly treated.  We do not want to lose the chance at some armor crafted from it's hide.  I may be full of myself sometimes, but we do have a good reason to head back to town.  They will still be here when we come back, perhaps more prepared.

If nothing else, the farm will need workers to rebuild.  We could at least put out word if our friend wants help.  Jobs are not always so easy to come by."

OOC Use Earthwarden to split the thing open down the length of the creature.  Might be important organs or whatever.
[Private to GM:
Looking at disadvantages, Balir carouses compulsively, and is chummy.  Plus he is stubborn.  He misses the bar, and the chance to drink with friends and brag about his successes.  While he has very good reason to bring back the animal hide and have armor crafted, this is really his ulterior motive, and he will get stuck on it.

He creates a stone missile and gets ready. I presume we can see them from a distance if they are so large...at what range do we see them?

Balir has no fear of wolves.  He strides fearlessly towards them, with his axe at the ready.  In an effort to get in close before being detected, he does try to do it quietly.

[Private to GM: He makes it exactly.

customary crackle of green sparks, and Snorri heads forward with his axe,

The wolf struck by the stone missile drops to the ground, and the second takes an arrow to the chest, but, while blood trickles out of its slavering jaws, it remains standing,.its cries responded to by more wolves you cannot see.
