All of the thrashing about have loosened or ripped some of the restraints. But the beast is still hobbled, although only on three of its 8 legs... it has nearly righted itself.

He takes a careful aimed stab to the creatures vitals, aiming to slip between the scales.

Balir continues swinging at the head/neck area of the giant beast, in an effort to kill it or at least stun it.  He meets with some success, and feels like he penetrated the beast's scales.

OOC Balir has been working on the same area for a few shots now, hoping that over time the scales where he is swinging become compromised.

[Private to GM: Balir should hit comfortably, but potentially will do only 1 point of damage.  He should in theory block any counter-attack, though.

Aethul's attack might have pierced its lungs or liver, if it could but have pierced the armor (-10+4=-6) to do that. It bleeeds, but barely.

Balir lands a solid hit on it,but still only a little gets through the scales, enough to make it bleed , and leave it rattled. It bites blindly at the air, its lower jaw knocking against the shield.

With its pilot light out, its belly is beginning  to swell with gas...

Balir continues his assault on the creature's head and neck area.  He seems to be making progress, even if it is slow.  And, while the thing snaps at him, it isn't attacking any of the more easily damaged members of the group.  In other words, he was doing exactly what he should be, as a heavily armored Dwarf.  He was showing them just how superior a good Dwarf was to one of those effeminate elvish fighters.

OOC  Balir's success so far seems to match his level of arrogance, although he would only see it as confidence.

He will again seek to shield Marlena as he guides everyone away safe distance.

Balir momentarily cocks his axe in the air in an effort to acknowledge the comment.  But he does not move.  Instead, he takes another slash at the beast, keeping his shield steady and prepared for whatever might happen.

[Private to GM: Being overconfident, Balir expects his armor and shield to protect him.  Plus, he thinks the more fragile humans probably need him to keep the beast busy so they can retreat safely.  When he judges that he's in danger, and they are clear, then Balir will move.  Right now, he thinks he's doing the right thing by continuing with the beast.  Even if that's foolhardy.]

Marlena m's spell ignites the gas building in the creature's belly, and while it is tolerant of fire damage, it is badly scorched inside, and the damage bypassed its armor. Smoke trickles out of its scales, and flames blasted out of its nostrils and jaw.

Obviously has serious indigestion.

He cautiously moves close and stabs with his short sword, standing so whatever squirts out doesn't hit him.

Balir finds himself happy to be next to the creatures neck and not in front of it when it belches.  He comments "Must have had some Dwarven Ale." with a wry sort of humor, before hacking into the creature again.

Aethus buries his sword to the hilt between the scales!

Chunky rips the pick from its eye, and steaming ichor sprays from the socket

Balir'sblade bites into a scale, and the creature swings to snap at him, but he catches its chin on his shield.


The small explosion ignited the spidersilk, which turns immediately to ash. The  rope is now burning.  The beast has not caught on yet that it is no longer hobbled

He works the blade back and forth so that the edges cut it's insides, using the skin & scales as a fulcrum.

Balir is very aware that the creature knows where he is.  And, he is also very aware that others are doing damage.  The serpent was focusing on him, which left the others to safely do their business.  Balir was doing his job, and it was in his humble opinion, glorious.  Songs should be written about his wonderful performance against the worm.

Even while this is going through his mind, however, he still has a job to do.  Balir takes another hack at the creature, careful to keep his shield ready, as he has all along.


[Private to GM: At least Balir is consistent.  He can hit reliably, and defend reliably.  And do exactly 1 HP of damage reliably (after armor...)

Blind as it is, the beast knowsthe fauns's location, and lunges forward, biting off the swashbuckler 's  right arm at the shoulder!

He withdraws his sword and stabs again in what he hopes is a more lethal location (Vitals) ...

Balir thinks to himself FOOL!!!, but doesn't say anything.  Instead he uses the creature's distraction to take another swing, and lands a good one.  Finally, he thinks to himself, I finally did some real damage!
