In reply to Aethul (msg # 820):

you spot a few singed places in the scrub, as if a hair were caught there and then burned.

many dead of those ilk cannot cross a threshold without permission, but the greater one was lord over this area and might have rights to enter

Can they command lesser undead that might do this? Also, would opening the door count as crossing the threshold?

Hmm, very odd Hannatti, it's like whatever was caught by the twigs caught fire and burned.  He then tells everyone else what he has seen.

Never heard of a Vampire doing anything like that, it's more like that damned fire best we killed.

Hannatti shrugs, "Men have dogs. Maybe vampires have vampire dogs. What do you think, Kirpich? Does your Religion have anything to say that may enlighten us on the matter?"

In reply to Hannatti (msg # 825):

"Sunlight can cause Vampires to burn, so if it was caught rushing back before dawn, that may happen. Though that would be a very stupid vampire, and they are not typically that stupid. I have not heard about vampire dogs... usually dogs do not like them."

OOC, rolled for hidden lore (undead) before to know if there were others types of vampire or undead that are often with vampires. Need another roll?

"I believe I have heard of vampires having human servants. They drink of the vampires blood and become enthralled having to do their master's bidding. I am not sure if this is a thing, but it might be what has happened here."

OOC: Also, I didn't understand the Narrator's post above. If someone understood, could they translate, please?

Re: The Beast of Veroigne

OOC: Aaaahh. Yeah, that was probably it. So maybe someone who could handle daylight had some vampire hair on them, and said was then left behind to burn as daylight fell upon it.

Balir continues his speech "Either way, we should probably focus on setting up a welcoming committee in case they decide to return." He looks around for a good spot to make a stand, and for place to setup traps.

OOC: I think we could use a drawing or a very detailed description of the area, so we we have the best means to make plans for an ambush.

not a lot beyond the two offered items, 1 that they might be distracted by counting grain , and 2 that the boss vamp might not be bound by the need for invitations to enter.

Looking at the barrel or rations, he will tell everyone about the distraction and hand them, including the woman, a handful of seeds. (Assuming about 4 rations worth of seeds)

He will also relay the concern about the boss vamp.

Re: The Beast of Veroigne

Balir accepts the grain. "Thank you Kirpich," he says, and then knocks on the un-roofed walls of the building. "This site is certainly better than just fighting out in the open. But it is certainly not perfect. We can't really go into the basement, as that would leave our horses vulnerable out in the open. So we will need to make our stand here behind these walls. I suggest that we do not start a fire tonight, even if that means we will be a bit cold. I think we should place one or two close combat warriors in the doorway to stop those trying to get in that way. I can do that. Behind us will be the ranged attackers who will try to fire on whatever they can - especially those of the enemy that can fly. If it turns out that we are being overrun by enemies coming over the walls - in whatever way they manage that - I suggest we move to the south western corner right next to the doorway. Here Hannatti and I can stand in front of Kirpich and Aethul who can fight from behind us - hopefully with less resistance. I am thinking that since your elemental, Kirpich, doesn't have any blood in it, it will not be a prime target, and thus perhaps we can hide it in the fireplace over there, and then it can come in and attack the enemy in the back to distract them and give us an edge. If out little friend starts taking too much heat, it should be able to roll over behind Hannatti and I for protection." He looks at the others, and adds "That would be my suggestion. But I am definitely open to possible improvements."

OOC: I can't remember if Kirpich is a melee character or ranged, but I am assuming he is mainly ranged. I am also assuming that, on the map North is straight up, and that the crop-outs to the right on the ruined farmhouse is a fireplace,, where an earth elemental could possibly hide and prepare for an ambush.

"Yes, thank you, Kirpich. That could save lives!" agrees Hannatti. She nods at Balir's plan, it seeming sensible and she nothing to add.

Re: The Beast of Veroigne

the farmhouse has no roof or doors, but yes that is a fireplace  to the east.

where did the seeds come from? the farmer's widow has a small sack, but theyare not part of rations. created food also does not contain seeds; it is closer to tofu unlessmade out of foodstuffs.

Re: The Beast of Veroigne

In reply to Narrator (msg # 838):

The pack horse has approximately 60 travellers rations in a 20 gal barrel. Given how common various types of seed were in diets of the day, I assume there would be some seeds in that because they some of the very few natural foods that do not spoil, and therefore typically made for travellers rations.

Animals also would eat seeds as part of rations. I therefore assumed that with 60 travellers rations there would be some seeds.

Kirpich is a ranged character, using a stone missile as his primary defence, and his silvered pick, which he is not very skilled with, as his backup. Chunky is a melee individual, but I think still susceptible to energy drain.

No barley or oat seeds? Also, given the undead lore research and rolls made before we left town, why did we only realise that we needed seeds now?

your rolls then told you about garlic and wild roses. your undead lore rolls generally get you 1 item per roll unless you crit. no rolls for roses on the way, btw.

if you want specific goods you need to ask for thrm explicitly  and not assume that they come under "genetic rations"

Ok, next time will be more specific. After going through the rations, Kirpich will hand out whatever seeds he has found, as well as some food.

No rolls for roses on the way? What rolls would be appropriate?
