After fruitlessly searching the rations, offer some rations in exchange for the flax seeds the widows son is playing with. Though we do not want all of them...she should also keep some.

Do we need them with the grass seed I brought?
She will need them to replant here soon.

Yes, but from where? She obviously can't travel with a young family and a farm and no spouse.

"Could we also talk a little bit about the plan for the fight? You know setting up some defences if possible, and how we will try to approach the whole thing if we are attacked? Seeds are nice and all, but they won't win the fight alone."

In reply to Aethul (msg # 851):

"We can, and planting season is not that close. We will have to purchase crops for all around here before then.

You are right. We can fall back inside of the cellar if we need to,so we should be prepared to do so. Otherwise, we can do what we can to inflict maximum casualties. Given they maybe able to fly we should stay at the entrance, and set up defensive positions. That is my take.

Hannatti lays out food, nothing spectacular, just trail rations, for all present including the farmer and her child. "Come and eat," she suggests. "I didn't bring anything for the horse."

Re: The Beast of Veroigne

Balir looks at Kirpich sceptically "We can fit the horse in the cellar? Are you sure? Because if we can, then we definitely should do so. Horses tend to panic when smelling the undead, and apart from the risk of it being killed, there is also a risk of it running away. And if you guys can also fit in there, then I can stand in front of the door, and stop a good chunk of them before changing with someone else."

Kirpich maneuvers the creature into the cellar and settles it down, feeding it with some grass gathered outside. Once inside, he unloads all the camping equipment, sharing food and water with the hosts.

Re: The Beast of Veroigne

"Well," says Balir surprised. "It would seem that we all can indeed fit in that cellar. In that case I think our defensive plan should change. As Hannatti says, we should continue taking shifts the 6 of us. Perhaps just stay up in front of the stair and keep a lookout. Then if someone approaches, instantly go into the cellar, wake up the others and hold the doorway until everyone is ready. Then we can consider drawing back a little bit to lure them into the cellar one at a time - and yeah, we gotta make sure only one can fit in at a time - so we can pound on the enemy as a group. That should give us an edge. When we can feel the assault waning - that means that they become less eager to run into the cellar to die - then we need to start considering a counter attack before they flee, and hole up in their tower, giving us the same treatment when we arrive there." He then pauses, before continuing "Myeah, If we start letting the vamps into the cellar, we may want to consider having someone stay with the horse to calm it down. The last thing we need is a panicking horse in a small space, where we are standing between it and the exit."

Re: The Beast of Veroigne

In reply to Balir Ironhide (msg # 867):

the root cellar has a 7 foot ceiling, is 4 yards wide by 6 deep... not very spacious, esp as the horse takes up 3 yards. its a bit cramped, and opening the door to let something in might be tight.

the barred door or the combination  barred door and personal residence may have done to keep others out.

Re: The Beast of Veroigne

Perhaps better is to have a few stay with the Lady of the farm and her chidren to keep them safe.
The rest of us can hide outside and attack the intruders by surprise. Marlena, you can make bright lights for us can't you?
that would likely put them at a disadvantage.
