Re: Pequenauds in the Swamp
His expression unreadable, but surely unpleasant, Chou-Zhen steps forward.
"But days ago, my friends and I fought to defend the Omo Sakemoko's home place in the city. Shortly before that, we stood together to attack the Omo's enemy Akira Aku No and his followers.
"In either case, we did as we were ordered by our employer. Surely these men did nothing more or less -- aside from the officer of their unit, who at least had some authority to interpret his orders, whether to approach with deadly force or with diplomacy. That one, however, fell at the wall in the first attack.
"How should these suffer for having survived following evil orders? They made no decisions, save to obey rather than suffer punishment, punishment which might perhaps have been extended to their loved ones as well as themselves.
"Baron Pequenaud and his officers are to blame, not these mere foot soldiers. We may not send them back, lest they tell of our defenses, but we should offer them mercy rather than further suffering, and be prepared to allow them to return to their homes once the matter of the Baron's authority here is settled."
Having said this, he turns away from the Elder's bench and returns to his place in the crowded room.
