once in the room of destroyed golems and scorched wallpaper, there are two doors of the 4 that you haven't passed through... Safwan leads you past one of the rooms and to the door oppise the stairs down.

a stone spiral staircase leads upward...

Amelia follows.
She counts stairs and doors, occasionally pausing to write the numbers down in the back of the mapping book, then scurrying to catch up.

"Safwan's obviously being helpful. I think that's his nature," says Amelia. When they reach the top she'll ask if anyone else was counting stairs and compare numbers.

Gareth will ensure Amelia is not lost when she stops to write stuff down, and will also count steps, comparing notes with her each time before she writes. But he shares Haverons caution, since the creature has shown dedication to its programming up until now. If he was creating it, he wouyhave it programmed to lead interlopers into a trap...

Still following the automaton, cautiously. Counting steps and mapping.

Re: The Black Tower
Amelia writes down the number of steps and circclies the number to indicate an archway. If there's line of sight she glances through the archway but does not deviate from following Safwan.

======
OOC: How many steps to this archway?
           (Or, if it's easier, else just call it "1st floor", assuming the previous level was the ground floor).
Just checking, this is the first visible archway (or doorway) since we started clmibing stairs?

the area described was the ground floor, Safwan met you on lower level 1. you are ignoring this area (one of four archways- entrance, vestibule to one side, golem room  in the center with archways back to the entrance, south to the down stairs you just came back up through, north to the up stairs, and east to somewhere else.

Yes, ignoring the area (apart from taking notes and mapmaking) and continuing to the top.

the spiral stairs up are made of the same black stone as the walls and floors that have not been covered with wallpaper.

unlike those rooms, there is no such design. the staircases (so far) have been devoid of decoration, at least as far as most of you can tell...
