Re: The Black Tower

Haveron shrugs, but then turns to Berry and Gareth.  "Makes sense, but...how trustworthy is your friend?  I don't see that he has anything to gain, but he's not what many would consider a reliable source."

Haveron's head then swivels to look at Var directly, although his manner is more even and matter-of-fact than anything.  "I mean no offense.  It's my job to guide us all through this safely.  Your suggestion seems sound, but I need to know who I'm dealing with too.  When we act on this kind of information, I'm the person responsible for getting us all through this alive.  That's what leadership means.  You pop in and out, but most of us don't know your history or agenda.  Therefore, I need to make sure the people who do know you feel like you're trustworthy."

In reply to Haveron Stormwal (msg # 147):

Gareth tries unsuccessfully to stifle a chuckle.

"He serves demons. Or rather,he thinks he serves himself and uses demons, but such actions really serve demons. Not so different from me, but i don't take orders from them. But I can stand by to toast it if that is needed. I suggest removing jigsaws arms and destroying them though. or at least one, to disarm him. He wont be completely 'armless, but that may give us something to bargain with it, if it can be bargained with. But I doubt it can...interested to see though."

Re: The Black Tower

Haveron motions for Var and Berry to lead the way, and then responds to Gareth.  "It might have been me too."

In reference to Jigsaw, Haveron adds "The...thing...seems like it reacted like it was instructed to, more than anything else.  Something triggered the reaction, but we do not know exactly what it was.  It seems to think in a rather rigid fashion, and does not know how to interact outside of his instructions.  I think that was what Var suggested to us when he guided us to follow it, although any traps may be programmed to ignore him too..."

"If it was me, then perhaps we should finish cleaning those runes. It may be they can be part of the traps, because you are right...magic can be programmed to ignore him and not us. Normal traps probably not, but magical traps, very much so."

He goes with Haveron.

The frieze af runes, while thaumaturgic in nature, have no magical effect beyo d decoration as far as you can tell. However, you did destroy something in that room, triggering the golems.

The runes are painted on long silken panels that are glued to the walls. They can't  be 'cleaned off' in a normal way.

Silken runes, fire, hmmm Gareth sees how the two interact. He creates a flame jet to burn them evil Gazebo runes off the wall.

In reply to Gareth (msg # 162):

As Gareth once again destroys potential treasure with fire....
The decorative and valuable silken wallpaper bursts into flames accross the upper half of the room.

1200 sq feet of dyed fine silk with block printing worth $1080 before being set on fire, now worth $0

Note: if the decorative calligraphy had been evil runes Gareth would have taken damage immediately  upon first scraping at them.

In reply to Narrator (msg # 163):

Gareth has no way to detect if it was evil. I am sure we will have more treasure here than we can carry...besides, no-one voiced any reason not to this time, and we have been discussing destroying them for quite some time.

Content that there is no magical traps, Gareth is ready to follow Jigsaw...

Re: The Black Tower

Amelia blanches a pure white when Gareth impulsively burns all the silks in the room.  She opens her mouth to speak, but nothing comes out for a few seconds.  Finally, she recovers her composure, and fingers the necklace at her throat while stating flatly "That would have brought a handsome price if we had taken the time to take the silks down, instead of burning it. How could you not understand....."  Her voice trails off as she looks helplessly at Haveron, still shocked at the event.
