He will wait until the first enemy is in the area before casting that, assuming they are following us down...

Ok, so create fire with a radius of 2 yards (or diameter of 4) centred 2 yards inside of the door will cover the landing and us some staris. Excess fire will hover in mid air, possibly obscuring the stairs, or fall away into the void? Walls are stone, so not effected by fire, right?

But the Adept will have to step back a bit.

excess fire falls into the void. the landing is low mana. The walls have painted surfaces which may or may not be all stone on this side. the door is wooden on this side,orichalcum on the reverse.

if the spell succeded in current mana but not in the low mana, the fire in thr low mana area would fizzle out while the rest burned.

Amelia keeps out of the way but does look out for anything approaching the group's rear.
