Re: The Black Tower

In reply to Gareth (msg # 915):

what is your reach with the Jo? the swords from the other dide are Reach 2, and two attacks whiff past you. your "held attack"
or Wait maneuver  doesn't work with a move forward and two dodges

Thir wait was successful. but their swings were not.

In reply to Narrator (msg # 916):

Reach one. After the first attacks miss, can he step forward with the second attack and dodges, using rolls made? I would so hate to waste two critical success in dodge, given recent rolls!

Re: The Black Tower

In reply to Gareth (msg # 917):

You dodged twice, the 4 was a crit, the 5, while nice, was not because your dodge is only 10, and not 15.  Your hit had been a miss by one. If you want to advance, they are on the bottom step, and you are proximate to the void... and easier to push than they are. You are also alone and trying to get into close combat with them?

Re: The Black Tower

In reply to Narrator (msg # 918):

Not close combat, but reach of 1 is closer than range of two. The first attack was readied, which did not get to be used since they did not move up, was a miss by 1, and the dodges then were normal successes. The second attack I had to step forward for, was 2 under unless there was something I missed, or they dodged? That was when I got the critical success, Ok, just one, and one more good success. Any other rolls I should make to catch up?

Just a hit and run, hoping luck holds out, to hold them at bay and give the others time to recover...not taking them all on!

as Gareth dodges back to the flames, the two reavers in the second rank throw knives...
the first one just misses his ear,
but the second strikes the mage in his unarmored leg for 3 points impaling damage!

In reply to Astral Reaver (msg # 923):

Was his attack successful? Also, does he get to dodge the new attacks?

[Private to GM: Assuming previous rolls dealt with 4 sword attacks, additional dodge rolls: the attack near his ear would have failed, but dodge of the second attack on his leg succeeded by one.]

Re: The Black Tower

Don't Dodges count as reactions to incoming attacks and, assuming not stunned etc, are independent of a PC's move/maneuvre?

In reply to Amelia Montaigne (msg # 926):

And since I was only taking 5 ft steps, I understood that was only attack anyway, since you ruled out retreating dodge. There is not usually a limit to dodges, so if there is here, that would be good to know.

In reply to Gareth (msg # 927):

dodge works on attacks you know about. someone selecting wait until someone peeps through the flames to throw a knife should maybe count that way?

your attack succeded, but did no damage. the spell was resisted.

Re: The Black Tower

In reply to Narrator (msg # 928):

Ok, so attack was unsuccessful. Presumably once they could see me, I could also see them, and knowing they were enemies the attack would be expected.

Intention was to step forward, expecting to be attacked, and dodge any attacks, responding with an attack of my own when he was within range. So I understood the guys with swords saw me first, and I dodged their attacks, but failed in my attack because they did not step forward. So next round I stepped forward again, dodging the swords attacks and seeing those with knives as they see him. Gareth attacks those in range unsuccessfully, while they attack Gareth. One dodge he fails, but fortunately the guy misses, while the second dodge succeeds.

That was how I understood how we got to our current position. 6 attack on Gareth, so 6 dodges rolled, and the futile held attack and the second attack made. He is currently in melee with 2 swords, and two others just threw knives at him. Did I miss something?

He is puzzled as he watches two of his party jump through the flames to attack who knows what, if anything. He stands on guard to defend the door way.

Amelia keep out of the way of the strong, important members of the group. She tries to keep an eye on Shroud, but being honest to herself, she realises if his eyes glaze over again she couldn't actually do much other than shout about it.

Re: The Black Tower

In reply to Safwan (msg # 939):

unfortunately,  Safwan failed the check.

in this case, Gareth retreated 1 yard, and Safwan advanced 2. Each of you roll thrust-2, and Gareth has an extra -2 because only one yard of movement and becausehd he is skinny;
higher roll knocks over the other person.
