Re: The Black Tower

In reply to Gorgath (msg # 115):

Gareth is a little annoyed at the response.

"What did he expect from the defences? My fireballs barely scratch him compared to what that Golem would have done...and I thought helping each other out was what we were here for. I was trying to assist him..."

Re: The Black Tower

Haveron takes a stern line with the fire mage.  His brows furrow, and he shows more than a little anger at the comment.

"Gareth, I expect you to apologize to them, and I mean now.  You may be accustomed to fire, but for the rest of us it is quite painful.  Don't be a callous fool.  Those golems would have done quite a lot of damage if not for their help.  That comment was assinine, and I won't tolerate you treating your friends that way."

Haveron underscores with a cold, challenging stare, directly into the eyes of the fire mage.  It also does not seem like he's blinking much either.

Re: The Black Tower

In reply to Haveron Stormwal (msg # 117):

"I did apologise...how many times does he want an apology? I meant it then, and still do. If that apology is not sufficient, then please explain to me the modern way of apologising...

Apart from that, what was wrong with my comments? To be considered tough was a compliment for all the warriors that I know...seems to me you want a servant to grovel and scrape, not just to work with. It was your actions that activated the Golems attack, and that is the most likely source of the statues activating. Do you think putting a Golem into combat mode is less likely to activate the statues than scratching the walls?

You talk of being reasonable, but I was acting to try to defend my friends in the best way I could. I would not last a single hit close to those golems, so I do appreciate the Ogres assistance. But I also do not want to be dead-weight in combat either, so I try to help the best way I can. Perhaps we can find a way for me to throw fireballs without hitting my friends...I would like to and I try to, but fate seems to have other ideas.
"

Gareth returns his stare with anger building at the attitude he is being treated with.

Re: The Black Tower

Haveron shakes his head at the defiance of the man.  He really didn't understand, and that was the problem all along.  "You hit him with a fireball.  That hurts.  Throwing out an offhand sorry doesn't cut it.  You have to make him understand you're sorry.  Saying the words are hollow if your reaction is 'what does he expect...?'.  You're right, you went through the motions.  And I'm telling you the ogre is still offended.  Does that mean anything to you?"

"Of course it does. I just don't know what to do about it. I meant my apology sincerely, and I have no idea how to help him understand that. Open to suggestions, as stated previously."

"Gareth, I could maybe give some tips on forming mana missiles after we've finished the robbery? The blasts I've used before. Their seeking so you don't need to worry about hitting friends. Not full on lessons, but just enough to get started? "

Re: The Black Tower

"Blunt trauma, but they can bypass most defenses and are easy to target. They use ambient mana too. Notably they don't work on inaminate targets like doors or golems. Not really a proper spell, but sort of a twist in ambient mana so they don't have a real energy cost. Also I think that golem is repairing itself." Berry points to the servant. "Honestly its an impressive piece of work."

Gareth looks at him with interest.

"I thought that animation in a golem came from entrapping some poor unfortunates spirit and binding it to the will of the caster. Would it not be merciful to that life to free it?"

Re: The Black Tower

In reply to Adept Yisslitheniss (msg # 130):

"Were I enslaved without any release, yes. But killing the body does not kill the spirit...it releases it. You of all people should be aware of that. The spirit enslaved to animate this Golem, for that is what the animate spell does, is it not, is enslaved to a body not their own. I imaging if I were tied to someone else's body, I would want someone to break that link. That is what happens when we kill the body of a Golem. Is my understanding of the animation process inaccurate?"

His approach is very much philosophical, not confrontational.

In reply to Adept Yisslitheniss (msg # 134):

"I know something of the animation spell, as that is similar to what is used to animate the undead. Only with a golem I understand that the spirit is tied to a different body and the will of the caster, and it can never break away, but there are free will undead that serve no-one. But I have never heard of a free willed Golem."

Haveron purses his lips, and then directs the group.  "Let's make sure to gather all the information we need to have about this room.  I don't have an opinion on how to handle the Golem, as it's not anything I know about.  However, we should be moving on soon, whether we decide to incapacitate it, or ruin it, or leave it be."

He raises his hand in a way that suggests that he does not know how to handle the cleric.

"I am a scientist, I just look at the facts, and that is why I discuss them to see if I have missed any. Open to the groups decision...just let me know. What was in the cloak cupboard, by the way?"
