The Alchemist's Lair

"Emma, can you create food?  If so, I think we could pitch in a few extra rations for McNealy, to make sure he doesn't have to eat his pony before we get back."

The Alchemist's Lair

In reply to Evelina Grattan (msg # 287):

"Happy to. All I can do is essential food though, and it is easier to do so starting from organic material, so I will head upstairs and make use of the greenery..."

She creates 8 essential meals.

The Alchemist's Lair

In reply to Emma Wilson (msg # 288):

Christine will add to that, having rested, 14 meals. Some will be consumed while they all recover their strength...water is available, right?

[Private to GM: Rolled Create food 14 times, skill 16, between 7 and 16.]

Re: The Alchemist's Lair

OOC:  Essential Food turns regular food (say one ration) into "three meals" (if one person eats it, it lasts them all day, if three people share it, it feeds all three for one meal).  The transformation only lasts 1 day (24 hours).*

Create Food turns organic material into food (the closer to actual food the tastier, so twigs, leaves, and bark are pretty terrible).  The transformation lasts 1 day (24 hours).*

Just as a "heads up".  If you're plan is to feed everyone today and tomorrow off of magic food, great, if the idea was to leave that food for McNealy... well...

* We're using DFRPG Spells and those two spells are among the ones changed.†  They are no longer "Indefinite" and "Permanent", they are "one day", and Essential Food is completely redone.

†  Technically they were nerfed to "lasts 1 day" in Pyramid 3-60, but Essential Food is almost worthless at that point (for 1 mana more it makes food that weighs less than food made with Create Food).  DFRPG gave it a new purpose.

Change to Create Food:  Duration: Instantaneous. Food lasts one day or until eaten, whichever comes first.

Change to Essential Food:

Essential Food (VH)
Regular
Makes ordinary food unbelievably filling and nutritious. You must start with actual food. Each meal transformed counts as three meals, allowing it to last a traveler all day or feed three people.
Duration: Instantaneous. Transformation lasts one day or until food is eaten, whichever comes first.
Cost: 6 per meal transformed. Cannot be maintained.
Time to cast: 30 seconds.
Prerequisites: Clerical: PI 4. Wizardly: At least six Food spells, including Create Food.

I was not actually aware of this change to both create food and essential food...that is truly a nasty nerf! Well, create as much food as we can is the idea.

So what happens to essential food after the spell ends? I assume we can still get 8 essential meals and 5 regular ones if Emma creates essential food from meals Christine created?

OOC:  Autocorrect alert!

I presume Essential Food would just turn into regular food again, since that's what it started as.  We shouldn't think about what happens with Created Food that is eaten just before the 24 hours are up...

Re: The Alchemist's Lair

OOC:  We know Christine is a fervant believer in the power of magic and thus has no spare rations, but does anyone else (aside from Jednesa) have any rations they can leave for McNealy in case we run extra long in getting back?

Of course, we could also not worry about it. He mentioned he had a few weeks worth of rations.  If Christine starts using triger meat with Create Food (less FP and tastier) or the Frog Sisters start cooking it daily (Survival skillz), Jednesa could safely leave him a week's rations in case we go overly long.

We should also start treating the hides sooner rather than later if we want to have any value.

In reply to Jednesa (msg # 304):

Between her and Emma they have 22 rations, but she would want to keep a lot in case of a low mana zone. But Christine also knows cook, and perhaps this could be used to turn trigger into jerky. Wasn't there a smoker or dehydration unit in the alchemist lab we could use? If we are on plains, Emma could make a survival roll...or does our alchemist have survival? To be honest, we are not even sure he will be here when we return, so we probably should look after the gold at least...he has a lab and the almanac. What else does he have from here?

OOC:  Okay so if we each leave him 2 days food, that 10 days of meals for him in case we run extra long.  And we can just retrieve those meals when we return and pick him up in a week.  Unless he decides to take over this workshop and become the next ooze monster laying in wait for the next group to come by...
