Virgilio chuckles.

after a few hours you get towards the end of tbe fields, where you can see a number of garishly bright pavillians where you had before seen norhing but shanties outside the walls.

“Wait… you’re your own uncle?  Sounds convenient, Virgilio.”

He proceeds to laugh too hard, too long.

Virgilio takes in the sight of the carnival pavillions.  "That's festive."

"No, Dne, I'm not my own uncle, that's the point."

“My apologies… I must have misunderstood.  What are you, then?  Your own grandfather?”

The tall mage looks down at the pavement of the iter and shakes his head before looking back up at the bird-masked mage.  "No, I'm just Virgilio Hohlfeld, an apprentice mage who never gets tired from casting.  My father and mother weren't related before they married, nor were any of my grandparents.  Further back than that, I can't say without some research, but I think it unlikely."

He raises an eyebrow at the bird-man.

"And what's your story?  Do you actually think you're a bird?  If so, how do you explain the lack of feathers?"

"Come one, cone all... hey that is a nice bird man ya got there!"

Dilandua moves over next to to the horse and gives any carnies even looking like they are going to approach a death glare.

He ends the conversation rather abruptly and heads to the front of the party.  His birdhood was not up for discussion!

"Well, I guess that answers those questions..."

As soon as he reaches the front of the party, Dne lets loose an eagle-like shriek that sounds like it could bring down a stone wall.  But he makes no further comment.

Finally, he turns around, approaching the back-up wizard. In a surprisingly normal, almost boring voice, he says, "I'm a man, not a bird.  I'll never be a bird.  I'll never have wings, never fly, never hatch an egg." His lame little man voice starts to warble.  "I'll never know the true freedom that only a natural born dweller of the sky has as its birthright.  Are you satisfied now?"

He turns back around, kicks the ground and then walks away.

"Are you satisfied now," he repeats, Hamlet-like, this time speaking quietly to himself.

Reanna is amused at the display, but only shows a smirk as she continues on to get paid. She is keen to offload the marked items.

Dilandua seemingly pays no heed to the wizard's spat, instead is focused on keeping the sticky fingered carnies away from the pack horses.

Virgilio's face falls.

"I apologize, Dne.  I've gotten what I want from life, in a way.  I see now that you have not."

He shakes his head.  "Damn it, Virgilio, you know being different can hurt."  A pause.  "Well, how was I going to know he was that kind of crazy?  I thought it was just an act, carried too far."

The gate guards beyond are lazily eyeing your groupatvthe gate.
