Mario also stops before entering the puddle.  "I agree.  Too much stuff down here wants to eat us for me to just go wading -- and in half dark like this, a person could step in a hole without seeing it."

"Good idea."  The young archer unslings his quarterstaff, and slings his bow in its place with the lightstone on the upper nock above and behind his head.

"Let's go, slowly."  He starts by probing into the edge of the puddle and raising the wet end of the staff to examine the liquid, by eye and scent.  Water?
