Mell looks really confused... Jocelyn smiles at her and shrugs.

lefty obligingly scuttles down the hall, and then dives off the pipes it s clambering on to dodge a fireball that splats against the wall.

Recovering itself, the spider moves back toward you at full speed, nrrowly being missed by anothrr fireball.

Go on down and I'll hand him to you. It's OK Crotch Sniffer, only be a moment or two ... she lifts him magically and lowers him down to Mell.

Mario moves forward, stopping just short of where the second fireball struck, looking toward where it came from.  He keeps his bow up, his right hand hovering near the fletching of his silvered arrows as he looks for a target.

Mario can make out a humanoid form in the reflected light... the flame lord must be around the bend and down the hall.

thankfully that isvthe opposite direction of where you are headed!

That confirmed, Mario returns to the group near the bottom of the ladder and points away from the reflected firelight.  "Silver's that way.  Let's keep the lights low until we can't see that reflection any more."

the room you are in, directly below the tepidarium, is about 4 yards high and there are pillars supporting a vaulted ceiling every two yards. a number of pipes traversevthe ceiling and descend from it as well. you can see at least one large valve, and with the corridor where lefty got shot at behind you, there is a door with a few steps upbto it all the wayvto the right.

Checking his sense of direction, Mario heads toward the silver -- presumably behind the door with the steps.

the door has a round valve-handle that releases bars top, bottom, and sides when you turn it.

Clarence heads there as well and tries to turn it. He has not seen a door like that before...

"Wait, Clarence.  This kind of door seems made to keep things out or in.  If the latter, it won't be easy to open from this side; if the former, it might be all too easy."
