Re: I smell silver

"We can try to hear anything on the other side, but if the door is too thick, or if there's nothing moving, we won't hear anything.

"Jocelyn, do you have any magic that will help find out if there's danger beyond this door?"

Re: I smell silver

Nay, my skills do not include that talent. This sort of door is often used to prevent a flood, of assumedly water, from getting past. Tap it and see if it seems solid on the other side. I'd not put a hole through it if it has a large body of water behind it.

Re: I smell silver

"Oh, it hadn't occurred to me it might be water tight.  If there's standing water behind it, though, those latches are all that's holding it against the pressure."

Mario examines one of the latches to see whether it looks like the door is pushing against the latch.

"Maybe, let me check how the latch is built and operated."  He adds an examination of the gears to his check of the latches for evidence of load.

Re: I smell silver

Mario balls up a fist and gives the panel of the door a "right thump" (hoping it is indeed full of water, vs. previously unaware enemies).

Not tightly closed even, and nothing like water behind it.

"Seems that way.  Okay, Brodak, let's be ready before Clarence opens the door."

Mario takes up a position behind Brodak, where he'll be able to shoot through the door if needed, and lifts the glove off the upper nock of his bow to uncover the light stone, then puts it back on his left hand before raising his bow.

Re: I smell silver

In reply to Clarence Montague (msg # 899):

the door squeaks open. beyond there is the sound of running water.

The room beyond has a soaring vaulted ceiling and is occupied by a fountain  and two obelisks, one to either side of the fountain, which is fed by a steady stream of water from the mouth of a a carved lion head.

Re: I smell silver

In reply to Mario Crowfoot (msg # 902):

unlike the corridors, or even the tepidarium, the tiles on the walls and flook are largely intact.

the fountain is just about a yard high, the soewing lion face of the fountain just above eye level.

the obelisks , marked with strange runes, are three yards high, and are crowned with iron baskets of firewood.

Jocelyn looks around carefully as she heads toward the Obelisks. She looks at the carictures on both obelisks to see if any make sense.

Re: I smell silver

"Firewood that hasn't rotted in forty years or more?  Or is it just punky soft as I'd expect with the dampness from the fountain?  I guess we'd have to climb one of these pillars to find out."

He moves around the space toward his left, leading with his bow and its attached light stone.

"Last one in, can you pull the door shut? Wait, let's make sure we can open it from this side..."
