While Grohm waited for Rush to finish up with the business side of the trip, he took the opportunity to relax a bit and enjoy the after effects of his meal.

after much consultation with Angrid, Ulo returns with a proposal.

"For my people, returning to the western reaches is imperative; trading can happen between the Peikko from there and then back again... but Angrid proposes going below the sleeper... down where they get water from, deep into the pit.... the old Warrens had a nether connection that might tie in, but it would take some exploration..."

"I'm probably going to regret this, but..."

Virgilio speaks up.  "I can help with exploration.  I know magic that keeps me from getting lost.  We used to use it in the Library at the Guild College, but it works anywhere.  I do need to find this Spielgud at the Guild and learn a couple things quickly, but that should only take a couple hours."

“Am I correct in assuming that this new route will entail considerably greater dangers than the alternatives?  Not that this is necessarily a deal-breaker, but… you know.”

"Maybe not. The road we took was the only one know, so we may get lucky and find a safe passage..." Jendrich suggests, though he doesn't seem too convinced of it himself.

Virgilio gives Jendrich a wide-eyed look that breaks into an unsuccessfully stifled snicker.  "Okay, if you say so.  I'm pretty sure I'm going to wish I had the time and experience to learn fireballs, lightning bolts, and earthquakes before we go, but moving faster and lightening packs are going to have to do for now."

In reply to Virgilio Hohlfeld (msg # 641):

"I am content for now to pay to use the guild elevator, but I will pay a flat $3000 for a reliable that links this place to the western reaches and to the hobgoblin tower. I can't risk the lives of my crew on an un tried; it was difficult enough taking the path of the troll exodus. "

He is ready to see some sunlight, for a couple of days anyway.

"Did I hear correctly that an alternate path to the surface, bypassing the Guild elevator, combined with a way back down to the Western Reaches from the streets, would suffice?  Or is there a genuine preference for going deeper?

"I admit to a bias; these underground ways see excessively hazardous."

Dne’s head turns abruptly from one bird brain to another as the conversation progresses.  He rustles his imagined wings.

"...Wait, I thought birds ate worms..." Jendrich says, even as he checks his equipment.

"Wait, are we leaving to go deeper right now?  I mean, I could, and I'm thankful for the healing, but I can do more good if I have time to go visit the spell teacher at the Guild.  I shouldn't think it would take more than a couple hours to get there and back, assuming he isn't in the middle of something."

Grohm listened to Virgilio make his case.

"I think he's right.", Grohm said in agreement.

"We didn't come ready to explore caves. A day above ground would give the rest of us a chance to get more provisions or gear too."

“Only if the bird doesn’t peck the furry fiend’s eyes out first.”

Dne agrees with returning to the Guild first.

Reluctantly Ulo agrees with you and opts to stay below with Rafik while you all head to the guild.
