Back to Temple hill

resuming from
The Gardens of Summer

you are in a domed room with one exit and
four tympanic alcoves flanked with differing classic columns.
In the center of the room is a statue of Janus pointing ahead.

by the base of the statue are two startled looking guards in blue cloaks.

Watch out for people with blood drop armbands, they have been disappearing lately, and oh, the thing between the goblekin sporting teams has eased off a bit. Last week I'd have said to steer clear because of the riots and the dead, but all of that cleared up."

Thank you, priest. I shall come at the hour you say," responds Alastrine. She goes to find a place to rest for she has work planned for the evening that is exhausting but pleasing.

***
When Alastrine encounters Hograth on the way find an inn she hears his kind offer and says, "Please, keep it for now. It is exceptionally kind of you and very appreciated. I will need funding a a later time to make myself some nicer armour, but tonight's task for me is to make something worthy of Hephaestos as a donation to his temple. Perhaps, at a later time, I may make something superior for you that could go some way towards repaying such a sum of money. You may wish to consider what that may be. But now I need to go rest in readiness for this evening."

***
That evening at the temple Alastrine gratefully accepts the facilities offered and, after paying for materials to be used, works skillfully and diligently, guided by her magicks, to make a very nice large knife. Virtually unable to stand after her labours the woman sits for half an hour, resting and consuming some of her food and water. Feeling a little better she thanks the acolytes saying also, "I believe that was successful and I plan to return to speak with Priest Alvin in th morning after a somewhat late breakfast."

She teeters back to the inn to sleep like one poleaxed.

Winter gear costs about $120 per person; if you have DR1 cloth armor you are good, just might need gloves/ face covering, and boots rather than shoes.

If we hafta fight something that's currently in the mound then IMO it's better done now while we're all ready, armoured and not asleep also before the nasty foes that are a good distance away arrive here. If there's nothing in the mound to fight then exploring it now is a good thing to do.

Troll had in previous attack stabbed forward with polearm, which was dodged but not withdrawn
this was an attack made by yanking the polearm back to a closer grip, pulling it straight back (with a twist toturn the hook to face Hograth.)
Does that make sense? the passage is barely larger than a yard wide, and the blade went past Hograth on his unshielded side.

"Found some things," announces Alastrine loud enough for anyone vaguely near to hear. With a smile to Tomkin she adds, "It's full of valuables. Someone good at counting might want to do that and work out shares. I think this torc is special, so I'm going to try and understand it better." Not hiding anything, she holds up the torc. "It is rather pretty! Whoever made it was skilled. And I've worked a lot of metals myself".

In a quieter tone she mentions to Tomkin, "I don't think it has, but just in case this leather coffer holds any more secrets, hidden compartments and so forth, might you be able to check that out, please? I'm not much good at that."

Leaving the leather chest with Tonkin, the armourer steps unhurried but purposefully towards those on guard. "We haven't known each other for very long, but I'm not an alarmist nor an attention seeker." She shrugs. "I sensed something, something dangerous, perhaps five minutes away. Not always comes to pass, but it is pretty reliable. I recommend everyone keep their armour on and eyes peeled.

Having delivered for message of foreboding Alastrine secures the torc in a pouch and wanders back to where Tonkin is presumably still counting coin.
"May I?" she asks, and tentatively reaches for each of the rings, silver, gold and ornate.
She wants to try to estimate a value for each, or perhaps a total for all of the rings which she intends to return to the leather chest thereafter.

======
OOC: If required, some rolls for valuation of the rings,
20:13, Today: Alastrine rolled 10,6,6 using 3d6,3d6,3d6.  Jeweler 12, Merchant 13, Blacksmith 13

"We have a few chaps that got caught when the troll turned to stone..."

Actually, metal is a type of earth/stone, is it not? (According to the "Seek Earth" spell.) Would it change?

"Sure. Let's go have a look," she replies and stands up ready to follow.

***
Upon arrived at the remnants of thenow-petrified troll Alastrine tires to assess the volume of stone that she needs to work for each of the entrapped colleagues and as to whether it counts as worked stone.

You need only adjust a yard's worth for each of them. The stone is not worked; as thankfully none of these folk started chipping at it yet.

After assessing the petrified troll remnants Alastrine says to Urrun, "I can help with this. Please keep still."
Laying a hand on the stone that entraps Urran, the Armourer casts a spell and the stone flows away, releasing him.

She tries to repeat this with Tonkin and is rewarded with a similar effect.

Visibly somewhat more tired Alastrine says, "There you go, boys. Now, I really do need a bit of a rest*. I'm very new to this, well, adventuring thing. No one ever told me how damned tired it makes you."

When everyone is back inside and Alastrine has had a short rest (15 minutes), she concentrates on some of the earthy or stony ground around the doorway and by dint of spell fashions it up into a barrier across the doorway that's about chest height and a couple of steps, like a threshhold, on her side in case speedy evacuation is needed. The steps could also serve to allow a dwarf to fire a missile weapon over the barrier. She then turns the barrier and steps into pernmanent stone with another spell. "Done," she announces, and then casts a Watchdog spell before settling down for the night.
