In reply to Shawn Nyseth (msg # 376):

there is something magical about the coin, which has very worn markings on it.

it is not the kind of iron that is particularly  bothersome to fey.

the dead woman points to them and gestures at her eyesockets

"Aaah!  Anita, I think these belong to her."  He indicates the dead woman.  "Some cultures put coins on the eyelids of a corpse -- sometimes said to be payment for the ferryman who takes them across a waterway to the Underworld, other times simply as weights to hold the eyes closed.

"These seem to have some sort of magic to them, perhaps intended to aid the dead or encourage them to remain quiet."

"I know nothing of her beyond that we seem to have rescued her from that monstrous toad, and that she, like some others in this Procession, seems to be dead and on her way to the Underworld."  He looks at the friendly corpse again.  "And she's not my girlfriend.  My relationship with the dead is more one of consumer and provisions -- but here, seemingly, the dead do not lie quiet."

Re: On the Road to Autumn

Rosewood examines the obols, which are coins used to rest the dead...and paybthe ferryman.
these however have runes scratched recently into the surface, making the fey suspect that they have been cursed, and their purpose warped!

Re: On the Road to Autumn

Rosewood puts the coin down and studies it hard.  Digging into the law he learnt from all the books he had studied in the library.
He also tires to work out if what is going on here is the way things should work in the realm of Autumn or is something evil or wrong is happening.
The little pixie's has lived and visited the two other major courts.  He uses his mind try to understand the deeper meaning of the way the Autumn court works.  This is why he is here and this coin is a good way to tr to understand the ways of Auturm court or how a realm could be corrupted.

OOC:
13:00, Today: Rosewood rolled 12 using 3d6 ((6,2,4)).  -  Hidden Lore: Magical Writings NT 13.
13:02, Today: Rosewood rolled 4 using 3d6.  Hidden Lore: Faerie NT 13. – (Critical Success so being hopeful Rosewood learns something useful).

Re: On the Road to Autumn

No Fae creature writ those runes, as some of them can affect the fae!

There is something infernal about the writing, and you are certain that continuing to hold the coins will trigger a curse of some kind...
... and somehow that benefits whover enchanted them.

Re: On the Road to Autumn

"The simplest way would be to simply throw them into the woods alongside the road, but curses have a way of defeating such common measures.

"Heating them in a forge and hammering them flat would likely do the job, as would melting them down in a crucible -- but we haven't either of those with us.  There is magic that I presume would remove the harmful spell from these, though I don't know how to cast it.  Otherwise, we're left with physical destruction of some sort."

Re: On the Road to Autumn

Rosewood turns to Anita Drake.
Throwing them away would just result in someone else ending up with the curse.  We need to find out who is doing this and stop them.  I am sure these are not the only coin with curses on them.  Do you think we could keep them save and when we have time take them back to the witches.  They would be more likely to work out who or what is behind this?

OOC:
Unless I can make another roll on understanding the curse.  Not sure that would be possible.

Re: On the Road to Autumn

In reply to Anita Drake (msg # 397):

physical destruction might be easier than that... they take damage like any other targeted item.  scratching out the runes might work, and of course it would devalue the coin aspect, but the cursing seems to have already done that.

Rosewood looks at the coin.
What about one of my pixe bolts.  It may effect the curse but do little damage to the coin?
