Re: Time for a beating

"Not doing work, how they work. Well, I mean... not work but... work... it's..."
I compose myself for a moment after a vexed sigh.
"I meant it's how we do things around here. How trading usually goes and such."

Re: Time for a beating

My amusement has faded. "Maybe this won't be as fun as I thought..." I mumble to myself.
I'm a normal volume I say "Just watch and learn."
Now to the vendor I say "Good day! We seek peach pits, and maybe some peach wood. Do you happen to know where we could find some?"

In reply to Arvak Garver (msg # 41):

The vendor scratches his head and eyes the motley crew suspiciously.
"I dumped all the stones when I was cutting the fruit, but if you want
fruitwood, see Guillame over in the street of the carvers, over in the
Artisinal district."

In reply to Oly (msg # 43):

The artisinal district is slightly west and south of the Adventurer's guild,
And is home to leatherworkers, smiths, armorers, craftsmen and a few
alchemists, glassblowers and weavers.  Some have shops, others have stalls,
and a few spread their wares on the ground in the square.

In reply to Danos (msg # 46):

You find Guillaime's stall, where he sells ornamental and practice weapons
sold to bourgeois children practicing sword fighting. Some are cherry wood,
some maple, some oak, and some may be peach.

Re: Time for a beating

The creature begins picking up the various weapons sniffing and licking each of them in turn.

[Private to GM: Can he tell which ones are peach?  Can't decide if he would know that particular word at broken. I figure he knows his wood, but not necessarily what folk here call it.

Danos chuckles as he looks over the artisan's wares. "I'm sure my old companions from the mountains are having a good laugh at me know. I left to live in a human city so that I wouldn't need to learn their lessons about the wilds, and now I need to identify types of wood. I'm sure they could do this all blind, but I am useless."

Re: Time for a beating

Danos speaks to the artisan. "Yes, our employer has sent us here to purchase a gift for a guest that he is expecting. This guest comes from the north where little in the way of fruit grows, and so our employer thought that a peach-wood sword for the man's son would be a fitting gift. He was quite particular that it be peach.

"We're hoping that you have some for sale, and that we could purchase one for a reasonable price. What say you?"

Danos tries to negotiate a price, but is not familiar with the usual prices of peachwood weapons.

Re: Time for a beating

Danos smiles uneasily and tries to smooth down some of the corners of the clothes he's slept in for the past three nights.

"Thank you, if you give us a moment to confer, I'm sure we can come to an agreement."

Danos pulls the group away from the stall and says.

"I can offer $20, if you can cover the other $30. We can forget the cherrywood, I think."

Re: Time for a beating

The creature takes the blade the merchant indicated and gives it another sniff and taste, then takes some rather sparkly tumbled stones out of his pouch and holds them out to the merchant.  "Trade stick?"
