Re: Against the Cult
"Hmmm." Jareth strokes his stubbled chin and idly runs his left hand along his staff, the figures almost seem to move as he does so.
Then he sits forward and sets the book on the Plutocrats desk. He rubs his fingers along the spine and cover, peering at it closely. He sniffs the top of the book. Then flips open the cover and runs his finger along the inner binding.
"Average quality, standard wood pulp paper, young binding in bovine leather. No embellishments."
Then he flips to a random page near the beginning and rapidly skims it speaking quietly, almost without thinking about it, "Hmmm, standard blah, blah, blah about t'e demon realms, but still obscure information, difficult to find outside certain libraries; it be hand writ an illuminated, no that dwarf 'mass print' heresy..." he flips to the middle, begins skimming it, and then jerks his gaze away before shutting it, "Whoa, tha' be dangerous."
"Please allow me confabe with fy client a moment."
He rests his hand on it's cover and turns, leaning over to Nodwin, as though he were addressing his client privately, but speaks just loudly enough so the Plutocrat can easily hear him.
"Fifteen silver be a fair price for t'e Tome alone. Be a dangerous spell therein, at least t'e one, an ye nay get t'e piece of mind if'n ye sell to some near-do-well or scurrilous knave for twice or three times what t'e Plutocrat be offerin. Sellin to t'e Hadereum means it stay safe away from other villains."
His back to the plutocrat, he winks to Nodwin.
(Baring Nodwin suddenly stopping Jareth...)
He turns back to face the Plutocrat, "Fifteen silver an a permanent Writ of Adventure agin t'e Satrunines sound fair for t'e captives or t'e Tome, but fer both we be askin fer a bit more. Two concessions; firstly one of Meistr Zideqick's crewe be wounded most grievously in his leg. Did t'e best we could an t'e wound be closed, but he nay have back his proper gait. We need that Mario Crowfoot be given t'e gift of restorative healin that he may return to fightin t'e Cult in t'e Undercity wit' Meistr Zideqick."
"Secondly that Nodwin an I, an maybe Feistres Jocelyn Lemru, be allowed to study this Tome under t'e Hadereum's watchful gaze. T'e knowledge t'erein will be useful in future clashes wit' t'e Saturnines an t'ere Demonic masters. Nodwin be an Acolyte o' Vejovis, an no one to ha'e truck wit demons an a hatred fer t'eir followers. I'n a sage experienced in t'e knowin o' stuff that shouldnay be known an how to safely know it." He absent-mindedly fiddles with his Sage's Guild ring. "As for Jocelyn, she has twice fought this cult an personally done in several o' t'eir demon allies, she is committed to endin t'em."
With that he sits back and removes his hand from the Tome, leaving it sit on the Plutocrat's desk for his answer.
OOC: 20:40, Today: Jareth Mooncalled rolled 11 using 3d6. Merchant 17; Talking up the value of the Tome to Plutocrat Remulos.
The Merchant skill of 17 covers all known Reaction Roll modifiers (native skill is 11), absent the bonus from the Savoir-Faire roll and the penalty for Masugatan's rudeness.
